ING is looking for an experienced and highly motivated Credit Risk Model Validation professional.

The team
The Credit Risk Model Validation (CRMV) Team is an international team of highly qualified professionals within Model Risk Management. The team is responsible for validating risk models used across ING, ensuring that models are fit for purpose, compliant with internal policies and external regulations, and that their limitations and risks are clearly understood.

Within the BENELUX Chapter (Belgium, Netherlands, Luxembourg), you will operate as a senior expert and validation lead, closely supporting the Chapter Lead in ensuring high-quality validation outcomes, regulatory readiness, and strategic alignment across portfolios.

You will act as a trusted advisor to senior stakeholders, combining deep technical expertise with strong stakeholder management and influencing skills.


Role and responsibilities

  • Lead complex validation projects for Credit Risk Retail models (IRB, IFRS9, CDM), delivering robust and regulator-ready conclusions

  • Provide independent validation opinions and clear recommendations in governance forums

  • Act as a domain expert for Belgium/ Netherlands models, ensuring:

    • Strong portfolio-wide view on key model risks and issues

    • Oversight of model development and validation roadmap

    • Alignment and consistency across IRB and IFRS9 portfolios

  • Serve as the primary contact point for the related domain stakeholders (Model Owners, MoRM, COOR, CAS/ external auditor etc)

  • Advise and guide validation teams, ensuring:

    • Consistent approaches and conclusions across portfolios

    • High-quality and aligned validation outputs

  • Engage and influence senior stakeholders, including regulators (e.g. ECB), audit, and senior management

  • Present complex validation topics in a clear, concise, executive-level manner

Experience & expertise

  • Minimum 5+ years’ experience in Credit Risk model development and/or validation

  • Strong expertise in:

    • Retail Credit Risk models (mandatory)

    • IRB (PD, LGD, EAD) and/or IFRS9 frameworks

  • Good understanding of:

    • Regulatory requirements (ECB, EBA, CRR)

    • Credit risk business and portfolios

  • Strong plus: experience with ING Belgium models (IRB / IFRS9)

  • Demonstrate strong negotiation skills to align on findings, severity, and remediation

  • Drive cross-team and cross-department strategic initiatives (framework improvements, harmonisation, automation)

  • Coach and mentor less senior validators and contribute to a strong expert culture

Track record

  • Proven experience in:

    • Leading complex credit risk validation or modelling projects

    • Delivering reports for senior management and regulators

  • Demonstrated involvement in:

    • Strategic or framework improvement initiatives, preferably in a leading role

    • Cross-team or cross-department initiatives
