The Senior Counsel will provide expert legal advice and strategic guidance to the organization on a wide range of legal issues and will work closely with various departments to support business objectives. The person in this role will be responsible for developing and litigating regulatory cases, including drafting pleadings, testimony, discovery requests and responses, and briefs; managing legal risks; and ensuring compliance with all applicable laws and regulations. The Senior Counsel will also represent the company in legal proceedings and meetings with external parties.

Key Duties & Responsibilities may include the following:

  • Represent Kentuck Power Company in proceedings before the Kentucky Public Service Commission.

  • Manage litigation processes and coordinate with outside legal counsel on significant disputes.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment of legal strategies with business objectives.

  • Provide strategic legal advice on business initiatives.

  • Develop training and compliance programs for employees related to industry regulations and best practices.

  • Oversee compliance programs to ensure adherence to regulatory requirements from agencies such as the FERC and state public utility commissions.

What We're Looking For:

Senior Counsel Grade 10:

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited US law school

Experience:

  • 5+ years of legal experience, preferably in a law firm or corporate legal department and in the electric utility or energy sector.

Senior Counsel Grade 11:

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited US law school

Experience:

  • 7+ years of legal experience, preferably in a law firm or corporate legal department and in the electric utility or energy sector.

Where You'll Work:

  • On-Site in Ashland, KY or Columbus, OH.

What You'll Get: (Grade level depends on skills and experience)

  • Base salary between $136,539 - $224,609

Compensation Range:

$136,539.00 - $208,565.50

The Physical Demand Level for this job is: S – Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally (Occasionally: activity or condition exists up to 1/3 of the time) and/or a negligible amount of force frequently.
