Salary Range:

$196,000.00 - $254,000.00

What's the role:

As a Senior Counsel, Global Regulatory, you’ll advise the business on complex, fast-evolving regulatory matters across Etsy’s global marketplace. You’ll partner closely with cross-functional teams to translate legal requirements into practical, business-ready guidance across content regulation, platform regulation, ecommerce, digital services, product safety/compliance, minors’ online safety, and consumer protection. You’ll also engage with regulators around the world, helping drive Etsy’s regulatory strategy and craft our responses to regulatory inquiries and investigations!

You will bring excellent judgment and the ability to balance legal risk with business priorities are essential. This role works closely with Trust & Safety, Product, Engineering, and business teams to identify risks early and navigate ambiguity with clarity and pragmatism.

This role requires your presence in Etsy’s Brooklyn Office once or twice per week depending on your proximity to the office. What's the team like at Etsy?

Etsy's Legal team works with every business unit, across offices worldwide, to deliver timely and business-savvy legal advice. We craft products, draft contracts and policies, advise engineers and leadership, advocate externally, and handle disputes in support of Etsy's growth and our mission to keep commerce human!


What does the day-to-day look like?

  • Advise business teams and support regulatory engagement globally. You will analyze and synthesize laws from U.S. federal and state frameworks to E.U., U.K., and beyond.

  • Lead and support responses to regulatory inquiries, investigations, and enforcement matters globally. You will coordinate cross-functional teams, working with outside counsel, and engaging directly with regulators and government authorities.

  • Collaborate with the Public Policy team to analyze new and emerging laws. You will interpret the evolving regulatory landscape, and develop engagement strategies. You will also build and maintain scalable internal frameworks and cross-functional processes that keep Etsy ahead of its compliance obligations.

  • Give sound, practical legal advice in areas where regulatory frameworks are unsettled, You will balance risk and compliance obligations with business opportunity and operational realities.

Qualities that will help someone thrive in this role:

  • 7+ years of regulatory experience (or combined regulatory and litigation experience) from law firm, government, and/or in-house work. Consumer-facing tech experience is required. Familiar with U.S. and global frameworks on content regulation and moderation, ecommerce, product safety and consumer protection. Licensed to practice in at least one U.S. state (New York or California preferred).

  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills. You can engage technical experts and distill sophisticated matters in plain English, without legal jargon, for business partners, engineers, and senior leaders.

  • Great instincts and good judgment. Know when to say "no" or "yes." You know when to raise concerns and are always mindful that the company is our client.

  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and a track record of leading complex cross-functional initiatives. You can influence stakeholders at all levels, including senior leadership, product teams, and engineers.

  • Comfortable answering new questions and unpacking laws from unfamiliar jurisdictions. You can work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment, sStepping up, sharing knowledge, and contributing across the broader Legal team.

  • Active use of AI tools for research, drafting, analysis, and task management, with curiosity about how AI can continue to amplify impact.
