About the BU


Join John Holland’s Queensland Building team, delivering landmark projects across health, education, civic and commercial sectors.
Our current and recent QLD work includes Waterfront Brisbane, major hospital programs such as Logan Hospital Expansion (Stage 2) and Princess Alexandra Expansion, and we’re also progressing through Early Contractor Involvement for the Brisbane Stadium as part of a joint venture.

About the Role

The main priority of the role is to ensure accurate cost plans / estimates of allocated projects are completed on time, in accordance with required technical standards and to provide leadership in the preconstruction phase of the project.

Key Responsibilities

  • Cost plan / estimate project quantities and costs in preparation of major tenders on time to a high standard
  • Interpret drawings, specifications, briefs, scopes, and standards and assess their impact on project costs
  • Understand legislation that could have an impact on project costs including relevant building codes
  • Monitor current pricing, new techniques and cost trends
  • Establish trade cost code / work breakdown structure for alignment and analysis with benchmarking
  • Ensure alignment and relationships are maintained with Cost Planning & Estimating team and other internal stakeholders
  • Maintain and develop relationships with subcontractors/suppliers to ensure accurate and favourable pricing as part of the adjudication process
  • Assess, prepare and present escalation schedules
  • Complete project cashflows that provide a minimum cash neutral position
  • Peer review cost plans / estimates prior to submissions
  • Assist project managers in the preparation of major variation claims
  • Validate design development progressing in line with budget on projects in delivery
  • Conduct as built cost analysis and contribute to actual cost data benchmarking
  • Provide iterative feasibility cost plan pricing for commercial assessment project analysis

What we are looking for;

  • Tertiary or Trade Qualifications in Construction, Engineering, Quantity Surveying and/or Project/Construction Management
  • 10 years’ construction experience ­
  • Multi-disciplinary estimating experience ­
  • Advanced financial management skills
  • Advanced skills in contemporary estimating software packages
  • Experience in Construct Only, Design & Construct, Managing Contract, Alliance, Joint Ventures & PPP Contracts types ­
  • Quantitative and qualitative safety, environment and quality risk assessment
