Job Description

Optus is an Australian telecommunications company, delivering more than 11 million services to our customers every day across mobile, broadband and digital solutions.

We are looking for a Senior Corporate Counsel (SCC) to support the Assistant General Counsel in delivering high-quality legal services across corporate functions and the broader business. Operating in a technically complex, dynamic, and heavily regulated industry, this role sits at the heart of Optus' legal team and plays a key part in supporting the company's corporate functions.

Success in this role requires strong expertise in managing complex transactions, legal advice, and risk analysis, paired with the ability to engage confidently with senior executives and collaborate effectively with peers and stakeholders.

Please note this is a Parental Leave Cover of up to 12 months commencing in July.

What You’ll Do

  • Provide legal advice and transactional support across all forms of financing, including bank debt, bonds, hybrids, and other financing programmes.
  • Support corporate activities including acquisitions and divestments, covering due diligence, structuring, transaction agreements, completion, and internal stakeholder management.
  • Deliver legal advice and transactional support on intercompany, intra-group, and corporate structuring across business units.
  • Provide legal support to tax and finance functions, including Corporations Act compliance, statutory requirements, tax and financial grouping, and procurement.
  • Build strong relationships across Optus, external advisers, and the broader Singtel Group to foster trust, collaboration and effective delivery of corporate services.
  • Support the business in managing legal risk and assist in the oversight and management of external legal service providers.

What makes you perfect for the role?

  • Admitted as a solicitor in Australia with 8+ years post-admission legal experience in corporate, commercial, and financing law.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide commercially focused legal support with strong drafting, negotiation, and project management capabilities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage clearly and confidently with stakeholders across all levels of the business.
  • Proven ability to build trust with business clients, work effectively as part of a team, and operate autonomously when required.
  • Self-motivated and able to manage competing priorities, navigate conflict, and influence stakeholders to achieve outcomes.

What’s in it for you?

  • Competitive remuneration and employee discounts. Make life easier (and more affordable) with $80 monthly credit and 25% off Optus products and unique shopping discounts with our retail partners.
  • Flexible working arrangements with opportunities to work three days in the office, two days remote or at home.
  • Vibrant and collaborative office campus that includes cafes, convenience store, chill out zones, GP, post office, gym and on-site childcare centre.
  • Build meaningful connections through employee-led networks and diversity initiatives including Culture Connect, Elevate Women, Disability Network and Express Yourself (LGBTQIA+).
  • Put your wellbeing first with free access to counselling and support services, 24/7 — in-person, by phone, SMS, or video.

At Optus, we are strengthened by others and that means valuing diversity and saying ‘yes’ to embracing individual differences. We are committed to ensuring that our application process provides an equal employment opportunity to all job seekers, including individuals from diverse gender, cultural and linguistic backgrounds, individuals with a disability, individuals identifying as being part of the LGBTQIA+ community, individuals who may have served in the armed forces or who identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander.
