This role provides critical legal guidance to TAL’s Group Life and Retirement businesses, ensuring our decisions, products and partnerships operate with rigour, integrity and compliance. By applying sound judgment across complex financial services, regulatory and corporate matters, you help protect TAL’s legal position while enabling the organisation to deliver secure, reliable outcomes for our customers. It’s a meaningful opportunity for a senior lawyer to shape enterprise‑wide initiatives, mitigate risk and contribute to the responsible stewardship of products and services that support the long‑term financial wellbeing of millions of Australians.

In This Role You Will:

  • Advise on life insurance products, policy documents and key agreements to enable compliant, commercially sound business outcomes.
  • Guide marketing and disclosure materials to ensure accuracy, clarity and alignment with legal and regulatory obligations.
  • Interpret complex financial services legislation to support informed, risk‑aware decisions across the business.
  • Identify emerging regulatory developments to proactively position TAL for compliance and strategic advantage.
  • Oversee breach reporting and remediation advice to maintain transparency, integrity and constructive regulator engagement.

Qualifications

  • Must be admitted as a solicitor in Australia.
  • 7+ years' legal experience in financial services
  • Ability to apply strong technical judgement across life insurance, superannuation and related regulatory frameworks.
  • Communicate clearly and constructively, translating complex legal issues into practical guidance.
  • Collaborate effectively with colleagues and partners to achieve shared outcomes.
  • Bring a proactive, customer‑focused mindset, contributing to a culture of integrity, care and continuous improvement.
