Are you an experienced emergency management professional with strong stakeholder engagement skills and a passion for supporting communities? We are seeking a Senior Coordination Officer to work closely with local government, partner agencies, industry stakeholders, and communities to deliver initiatives that strengthen disaster preparedness, support recovery, and build long-term resilience across NSW. This role provides an opportunity to apply your emergency management expertise, foster strategic partnerships, and contribute to positive outcomes for communities before, during, and after disaster events.

About the role

As a Senior Coordination Officer, you will play a key role in supporting communities through all stages of disaster management, ensuring access to the resources, services, and support they need. Working closely with local governments, partner agencies, and not-for-profit organisations, you will contribute to the development and implementation of locally led mitigation, adaptation, preparedness, response, and recovery initiatives. Your work will help align community driven outcomes with broader government strategies, strengthening resilience, sustainability, and long-term community wellbeing.

In addition, you will provide leadership across the region and within the team by acting in the manager’s role during periods of leave or absence. Stepping into this position with confidence and professionalism, you will ensure continuity of service, maintain strong stakeholder relationships, and support the ongoing delivery of regional priorities and outcomes.

Key responsibilities include:

• Leading and delivering projects that enhance local government capacity to support infrastructure, utilities, and business continuity.

• Facilitating information sharing and coordinating resources to support community participation in disaster planning and recovery initiatives.

• Supporting communities through rebuilding and relocation processes, ensuring Authority programs align with local needs.

• Provide agency representation during times of disaster and recovery delivery working collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders.
• Represent the Authority at the regional level by building and maintaining strong relationships across government and non-government sectors, supporting collaboration and coordination through regional forums and committees to achieve effective outcomes during operations.
• Drive best practices in community engagement, staff capability development, and knowledge-sharing initiatives.

• Engaging in broad consultations with local governments, the private sector, and relevant agencies to assess disaster response and recovery capabilities.

• Preparing reports, correspondence, and briefs to support informed decision-making within the Authority and government bodies.

• Work closely with senior stakeholders across government, non-government and community sectors to develop and deliver regional preparedness and recovery initiatives aligned with legislative requirements and strategic priorities.
  
  

About You

To be successful in this role, you will have:

• Demonstrated experience in emergency and disaster management, with a sound understanding of the NSW emergency management framework, disaster recovery arrangements, and community resilience principles.
• Proven ability to build, influence, and sustain strategic relationships with senior stakeholders across government, emergency services, local government, non-government organisations, and community sectors.
• Demonstrated experience leading complex preparedness, response, recovery, or resilience initiatives involving multiple stakeholders and competing priorities.
• Sound project management, coordination, and resource allocation skills, with the ability to deliver outcomes in dynamic and often rapidly changing environments.
• Demonstrated leadership capability, including the ability to mentor staff, coordinate teams, and provide operational leadership when acting in a higher-duty capacity.
• Highly developed communication and engagement skills, including the ability to prepare strategic advice, reports, briefs, and presentations for senior leaders and stakeholders.
• Proven ability to work autonomously, exercise sound judgement, identify emerging issues, and develop practical solutions to complex community and operational challenges.
• Demonstrated experience working collaboratively with regional and metropolitan communities to support locally led preparedness, recovery, and resilience outcomes.
• A commitment to supporting operations and deployments across NSW, including providing surge capacity during emergency events and disaster recovery operations.
• An ability and willingness to travel within NSW and support other operational roles during disasters, emergencies and other events, consistent with skills, background and personal circumstances. 
• Current unrestricted NSW drivers’ licence.

Essential requirements:

• Tertiary qualifications or equivalent experience in a relevant field.
