Abbott has been operating in Ireland since 1946 and serves the Irish market with a diverse range of healthcare products including diagnostics, diabetes care, medical devices and nutritional products. In Ireland, Abbott currently employs about 6,000 people across ten sites located in Dublin, Donegal, Clonmel, Cootehill, Galway, Kilkenny, Longford and Sligo.

Abbott Diabetes Care has opened a new site, in Kilkenny, that is at the forefront of Diabetes care with the latest technology, to manufacture FreeStyle blood glucose test strips and FreeStyle Sensors for use in diabetes management. Among Abbott Diabetes Care leading brands are the FreeStyle Precision, FreeStyle Lite and FreeStyle Libre systems.

As the Senior Controls Engineer you will address intricate problem-solving situations that may involve conflicting design specifications, the inadequacy of traditional materials, and the need for effective coordination. You will design, implement and maintain processes that help manufacturers increase productivity.

Key responsibilities:

  • Design and develop automationsystems and processes to improve efficiency and productivity.

  • Collaboratewith project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to define project requirements and objectives.

  • Conduct feasibility studies and risk assessments for automation solutions

  • Oversee the installation, testing, and commissioning of automation systems

  • Troubleshootand resolve technical issues related to automation equipment and software.

  • Ensure compliancewith industry standards, safety regulations, and company policies.

  • Provide training and support to end-users on the operation and maintenance of automation systems

  • Stay updated with the latest advancements in automation technology and industry trends.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electronic Engineering, AutomationEngineering, or a related field.

  • Minimum of 4-5 years of experience in automation engineering, with a proven track record of successful automation projects in the medical device industry

  • Strong knowledge of automation systems, PLC programming, HMI development, and SCADA systems.

  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Experience with Allen Bradley, Siemens and Codesyssoftware
