Title: Senior Controller

Location: Petersburg, VA; on-site, WFH most Fridays

Industry: Defense Manufacturing

Salary: $130,000-$165,000

Relocation: Available

Must be a U.S. citizen due to ITAR requirements

Role overview: Seeking a Senior Controller to lead on-site accounting for its manufacturing operation. This person will own the close and financial reporting, strengthen internal controls, guide manufacturing cost accounting, and give site leadership useful financial insight. The role also prepares timely reporting for the parent company under its policies and reporting calendar.

Required qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a closely related field.
• Typically 5+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience, with meaningful leadership responsibilities in manufacturing, industrial, or similarly complex environments.
• Strong U.S. GAAP, close management, financial reporting, internal controls, audit support, inventory accounting, and manufacturing cost accounting experience.
• Experience reporting to a parent company or corporate headquarters under standardized policies and deadlines.
• Hands-on ERP experience and advanced spreadsheet and reporting skills.
• ERP implementation or upgrades
• Tax and lender reporting
• Direct people management.

Preferred qualifications:

• CPA or equivalent credential
• International experience working with other countries & cultures

Core responsibilities

• Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual closes, reconciliations, financial statements, cash-flow reporting, and variance analysis.
• Prepare reporting packages, budgets, forecasts, and consolidation inputs for corporate leadership.
• Oversee inventory and manufacturing cost accounting, including standard costs, labor and overhead absorption, variances, scrap, and cost of goods sold.
• Maintain internal controls and coordinate audits, tax support, and other finance compliance work.
• Oversee AP, AR, fixed assets, payroll accounting, and treasury activities through the team as assigned.
• Partner with operations on margins, inventory accuracy, productivity, working capital, and financial KPIs.
• Develop the accounting team and improve ERP processes, reporting, and documentation.
