Position Description

Location: Washington D.C.Work Schedule: Full-time, Hybrid preferred; remote eligible Starting Salary Range: $155,700 - $199,675.91 a year with the starting salary determined based on candidate’s knowledge, skills, experience, and education.

Clearance: Ability to obtain a Public Trust clearance

Core Working Hours: 1000-1500 EST

The USAID Office of the General Counsel (OGC) advice and legal services on litigation, contracting, legislative and administrative matters is seeking a Senior Contract Attorney - Ligitation Support.

The position requires deep expertise in litigation before federal courts and administrative forums within the Federal Government. The Senior Contract Attorney – Litigation Support works closely with other OGC lawyers to provide authoritative legal opinions on complex or sensitive matters and in offering strategic guidance on legal risk management and compliance. This role includes the preparation of high-level legal memoranda, discovery requests and responses and communication with outside counsel, e.g. DoJ, and internal offices to meet litigation deadlines. It demands a strong command of government legal processes and the ability to provide advice regarding novel or precedent-setting issues.

Responsibilities

  • Provides advanced level support and assistance to attorneys handling administrative and federal litigation throughout the life of a case;
  • Reviews case materials and searches electronic hardcopy files to become familiar with questions under consideration;
  • Conducts legal research as needed, including in the preparation of opinions, briefs, and other legal documents;
  • Reviews legal documents to extract selected data and information relating to specific cases;
  • Drafts and edits non-legal memoranda, research reports, and correspondence relating to cases; and
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.), is admitted to the bar in good standing and has a minimum of eight years of substantive legal experiences in federal practice areas, including handling cases before U.S. District Courts, the U.S. Court of Federal Claims, the Civilian Board of Contract Appeals, EEOC or MSPB.
  • Ability to handle, defend and monitor responses to cases, including drafting timely pleadings and correspondence with outside counsel as needed;
  • Conduct research and analyze information to support decision-making;
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and interact with people at all management and support levels;
  • Collaborate with team members to achieve shared goals;
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with competing and shifting priorities, to effectively multitask, prioritize deadlines and effectively meet deadlines;
  • Communicate clearly and professionally in both written and verbal formats;
  • Advanced level of proficiency in the use of Google Applications and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); and
