Basic Function
• Lead and manage the production editorial workflow for front list titles and journal content, ensuring all projects are delivered within scheduled timelines, meet quality standards, and remain within projected budgets.
• Act as the primary point of contact between authors, editors, publishing managers, and external vendors, coordinating production activities, resolving queries, and ensuring the timely and accurate publication of front list titles and journal content.
KEY responsibilities
• Lead the production editorial process for Front List titles and journal content in conjunction with the Publishing Manager, aligned with revenue and publishing goals
• Own and provide cost estimates for frontlist books and journal projects for P&L planning and gross margin computation
• Identify, onboard, and train new vendors/freelancers (copy editors, proofreaders, typesetters, graphic designers, indexers) to expand and strengthen the vendor pool
• Ensure project costs remain within approved estimates and budgets for books and journal programs
• Manage content workflows through constant communication with publishing managers, authors, editors, journal editors, editorial boards, peer-review coordinators, and vendors to ensure timely delivery
• Own and prepare style sheets, copy-editing guidelines, and editorial standards for books and journals
• Maintain live production trackers and publication schedules to monitor milestones and ensure on-time release of frontlist titles and journal issues
• Identify, assign, and oversee freelance copy editors and proofreaders, providing regular feedback and ensuring adherence to quality standards, while copyediting and proofreading manuscripts, articles, and typescripts as needed to maintain accuracy, consistency, and error-free content
• Supervise end-to-end production workflows, including manuscript handling, peer-review outputs, typesetting, proof corrections, and final publication
• Oversee template designs, page budgets, article layouts, and enhancements to publication formats
• Coordinate cover design and visual assets with illustrators and designers while tracking associated costs
• Ensure rigorous quality control measures across books, journal articles, supplementary content, figures, tables, references, and metadata. Manage publication budgets, vendor payments, freelancer payouts, and expense tracking while ensuring timely processing
• Ensure proper archival, content preservation, and record management of frontlist titles and journal content in accordance with organizational policies and industry standards.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
• Essential:
o Education: Postgraduate, having worked preferably in the STM sector, with at least 8 years’ experience
o Excellent copyediting and language editing skills
o Knowledge of various referencing styles
o Good interpersonal skills to deal with authors, vendors, and internal stakeholders
o Project and team management experience is must
o Skilled in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
o Strong oral and written communication skills
o Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks simultaneously
• Preferred
o Knowledge of STM print and digital publishing processes
o Proficient in publishing technologies, including XML/HTML workflows, content management systems (CMS), manuscript tracking platforms,
metadata management, content structuring, digital publishing standards, and AI-powered editorial and quality-control tools
