At ERM, as a Senior Consultant, Wildlife Biologist, based in Vancouver, Smithers, Calgary, or Saskatoon, you’ll play a strategic role in advancing sustainable mining and energy projects across western and northern Canada. What You'll Bring:

Required:

  • B.Sc. or M.Sc. degree in Biological Sciences, Terrestrial Ecology, Wildlife Biology, or related field. Or equivalent experience
  • 3+ years (6+ years preferred) of relevant experience; preferably in environmental consulting, mining, or energy sectors
  • Demonstrated ability to independently lead wildlife surveys and small-to-moderate field programs
  • Strong wildlife identification skills
  • Demonstrated experience in one or more of the following:
    • Acoustic monitoring (e.g., ARUs) and data processing
    • Wildlife camera deployment and data processing
    • Avian ecology and identification by sight and sound
    • Spatial habitat modeling
    • Statistical analysis and study design
  • Working knowledge of applicable federal, provincial, and territorial regulations and guidelines
  • Experience preparing technical reports and contributing to regulatory applications (e.g., environmental assessments, permit applications)
  • Proven ability to manage assigned scopes of work, including tracking budget and schedule performance
  • Strong communication skills, with experience interacting with clients, regulators, and/or Indigenous communities
  • Ability to lead and mentor junior wildlife biologists
  • Strong commitment to safety, including following established health and safety protocols
  • Ability to follow direction and take initiative when required
  • Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines in a fast-paced work environment
  • Driver's License Required: This position requires a valid driver's license and/or the ability to operate a company vehicle due to the nature of job duties, which include frequent travel to various client locations across a large geographical area
  • This position is not eligible for immigration sponsorship.

Preferred:

  • Statistical analysis or spatial habitat mapping skills
  • Experience working on caribou projects

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan and lead discrete components of wildlife field programs and baseline studies (e.g., breeding birds, amphibians, habitat mapping), ensuring high-quality and defensible data collection
  • Coordinate and execute field programs, including logistics and crew supervision
  • Prepare and review technical reports, environmental assessment inputs, and permit applications, ensuring accuracy and regulatory alignment
  • Analyze field data and contribute to effects assessments, mitigation measures, and monitoring plans
  • Manage assigned tasks or small-to-moderate project scopes, including budgets, schedules, and deliverables
  • Support Project Managers and People Leaders with work planning, resource coordination, and risk identification
  • Serve as a point of contact for clients, regulators, and Indigenous communities on defined project components
  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior staff, including field oversight and review of work products
  • Contribute to method development and best practices within the wildlife team
  • Adhere to ERM’s health and safety expectations at all times
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across ERM to support integrated environmental assessments and project delivery

For the Senior Consultant, Wildlife Biologist position, theanticipatedannual base pay is $76,819–$98,928(CAD) Actual pay will depend on factors such as education, experience, skills, location, performance, and business needs. In some cases, pay may fall outside this range. This role may be eligible for bonus pay (casual and fixed term/flex force employees arenot bonuseligible).
