Job Description

WSP is seeking a Senior Consultant - Resource Geology to join the GCC Specialist Mining Services team, delivering resource geology services to our global mining business. Reporting to the Mining Team Leader, the successful candidate will lead and deliver geological interpretation, three-dimensional geological modelling, mineral resource estimation, and technical reporting for open-pit and underground mining projects worldwide.

This is a senior technical role that combines hands-on delivery with technical leadership. The Senior Consultant will take ownership of assigned resource geology scopes, provide guidance and review for junior geologists, engage directly with WSP global mining leaders and clients, and ensure that geological models and mineral resource estimates are technically defensible, well documented, and consistent with recognised reporting standards such as JORC, NI 43-101, and S-K 1300.

Geological Data Management and Validation

  • Lead the compilation, validation, and management of exploration and resource datasets, including collar, survey, lithology, alteration, mineralisation, density, geotechnical, and assay information.
  • Review sampling, QA/QC, and laboratory data, assess data quality and fitness for use in mineral resource estimation, and document findings and corrective actions.
  • Oversee database preparation, data import, coding, compositing, and reconciliation activities in accordance with project and WSP procedures.
  • Maintain rigorous data lineage, assumptions registers, and version control for geological models and estimation inputs.

Geological Interpretation and 3D Modelling

  • Lead the interpretation of orebody geometry, lithology, stratigraphy, weathering, alteration, mineralisation, and structural controls using drilling, mapping, geophysical, and other datasets.
  • Develop, update, and review three-dimensional geological, domain, and mineralisation models for open-pit and underground deposits.
  • Produce and review geological sections, plans, wireframes, surfaces, solids, and supporting visualisations for technical review and client communication.
  • Work with geotechnical, hydrogeological, mine planning, and engineering disciplines to ensure geological interpretations support wider project objectives.

Mineral Resource Estimation

  • Lead exploratory data analysis, domaining, compositing, top-cut assessment, declustering, variography, density assignment, and selection of estimation parameters.
  • Build, review, and validate block models using appropriate estimation techniques, and support Competent or Qualified Persons in resource sign-off.
  • Undertake model validation using visual, statistical, and spatial comparison methods, and clearly document results and limitations.
  • Lead mineral resource classification, reporting, reconciliation, risk, and sensitivity assessments in line with applicable project and reporting requirements.

Technical Reporting and Compliance

  • Author and review technical reports, memoranda, presentations, model documentation, data-room reviews, and due-diligence deliverables.
  • Deliver work aligned with recognised mineral resource reporting frameworks, including JORC, NI 43-101, and S-K 1300, as applicable to the assignment.
  • Prepare clear descriptions of data, methods, assumptions, limitations, risks, and recommendations for internal, client, and public-reporting audiences.
  • Ensure calculations, figures, tables, and model outputs are technically consistent, traceable, and suitable for independent review or audit.
  • Apply and uphold WSP quality-management, checking, review, document-control, health, safety, and environmental requirements.

Exploration and Field Support

  • Plan, review, and provide technical oversight of exploration, drilling, logging, sampling, QA/QC, density, mapping, and field data-collection programmes.
  • Undertake or supervise geological core logging, field mapping, sampling oversight, and contractor coordination during site assignments.
  • Assess the adequacy and spatial distribution of geological information and recommend additional data collection where required.
  • Comply with project and site health, safety, environmental, and operational requirements during all field activities.

Project Delivery, Leadership, and Collaboration

  • Deliver assigned resource geology scopes across WSP's global mining business as part of the GCC Specialist Mining Services team.
  • Work closely with the Mining Team Leader on resourcing, planning, scheduling, budgets, quality expectations, and delivery of project commitments.
  • Provide technical guidance, mentoring, and review for junior and intermediate geologists, and support their technical development.
  • Engage directly with WSP global mining leaders, project managers, and clients to clarify requirements, present findings, and provide expert recommendations.
  • Participate in the full project lifecycle, including proposals, scopes of work, contract inputs, technical quality, and senior review.
  • Communicate progress, data limitations, technical risks, and required decisions promptly and clearly across regions and time zones.
  • Support business development through technical input into proposals, client meetings, and presentations.
  • Contribute to standard methods, templates, reusable workflows, lessons learned, knowledge sharing, and capability building within the team.

Education and Experience

  • Master's degree in Geology, Applied Geology, Engineering Geology, Mining Geology, Earth Sciences, or a related discipline. A Bachelor's degree with strong relevant experience will also be considered.
  • Approximately 6 to 10 years of relevant experience in resource geology, exploration geology, or mining consulting, covering open-pit and/or underground projects.
  • Demonstrated experience delivering geological models and mineral resource estimates as part of studies, operations, or independent reviews.

Technical Skills

  • Strong capability in geological interpretation, three-dimensional wireframing, domaining, block modelling, and resource model validation.
  • Sound understanding of sampling theory, QA/QC, descriptive statistics, geostatistics, variography, and common estimation methods.
  • Working knowledge of mineral resource reporting frameworks, including JORC, NI 43-101, and S-K 1300.
  • Proficiency in relevant geological and mining software such as Leapfrog Geo / Edge, Datamine, Surpac, Vulcan, Micromine, Maptek, Deswik, AutoCAD, ArcGIS, or QGIS.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and confidence working with large, complex technical datasets.
  • Ability to prepare and review clear figures, plans, sections, tables, model documentation, and technical reports in English.
  • Understanding of quality assurance, technical checking, data governance, and version control for geological deliverables.

Mining and Consulting Knowledge

  • Solid understanding of open-pit and underground mining workflows and how geological models inform mine planning, evaluation, and investment decisions.
  • Ability to identify geological uncertainties and clearly communicate their implications for resource confidence and project outcomes.
  • Awareness of multidisciplinary interfaces with geotechnical engineering, hydrogeology, metallurgy, mine planning, environment, and closure.
  • Proven ability to deliver technically appropriate, cost-effective solutions within scope, schedule, budget, quality, and safety requirements.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English; proficiency in French is considered an advantage, although not mandatory.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience leading mineral resource estimates for open-pit or underground hard-rock mining projects.
  • Exposure to multiple commodities, deposit styles, and stages of study or operation.
  • Experience with database systems, scripting, workflow automation, Python, R, SQL, or data visualisation tools.
  • Experience contributing to technical studies, due diligence, audits, independent reviews, or public-reporting documentation.
  • Field experience in geological mapping, drilling supervision, core logging, sampling, or exploration

programme management.

  • Familiarity with reconciliation, grade control, short-term modelling, or operational geology workflows.
  • Experience working within distributed, multidisciplinary, or global project teams.
  • Professional registration, or eligibility for registration, with a recognised professional geoscience body, with progress toward Competent or Qualified Person status considered an advantage.
