WHAT YOU’LL DO:
The Senior Consultant – Project Lead serves as a project manager and subject matter expert for Human Capital consulting engagements, with a primary focus on classification and compensation projects. This role is responsible for leading project teams, managing client relationships, and delivering high-quality, data-driven solutions that support strategic workforce planning initiatives.
Work is distinguished by the ability to independently manage complex projects, guide consultants and analysts, and provide strategic insight to clients. The position requires a high degree of professional judgment and discretion, as decisions and recommendations may significantly impact project outcomes, timelines, costs, and client relationships.
- Provides project management leadership and subject matter expertise for Human Capital Consulting’s Classification and Compensation practice.
- Leads and supports staff on projects including, but not limited to:
- Classification and job evaluation reviews
- Market and salary analyses
- Compensation program development and updates
- Performance evaluation system studies
- Manages the full project lifecycle, including scope, schedule, deliverables, and client communications; serves as a primary point of contact for assigned clients.
- Develops project work plans, manages timelines and deliverables, and conducts risk management activities in collaboration with the Director of Human Capital.
- Participates in and facilitates client meetings to gather requirements, provide updates, and ensure clear and effective communication throughout the engagement.
- Oversees the collection, compilation, and analysis of qualitative and quantitative data by consultants and analysts.
- Evaluates complex data and translates findings into clear, actionable recommendations for clients.
- Prepares, reviews, and presents high-quality written reports and presentations, including presentations to executive leadership.
- Ensures accuracy, clarity, and adherence to MGT brand, quality, and professional standards for all deliverables.
- Provides direction, mentorship, and coaching to consultants and analysts to support performance, professional development, and knowledge transfer.
- Contributes to internal training and capability-building efforts related to compensation methodology, analytics, and consulting delivery.
- Supports the Director through project monitoring, quality assurance reviews, and adherence to approved work plans and deliverable specifications.
- Stays informed of applicable wage and salary legislation, labor laws, and regulations related to classification and compensation administration.
- Serves as a technical resource to team members and collaborates with other project leads and Human Capital staff to resolve issues and support team objectives.
- Assists with the development, interpretation, and communication of departmental policies and procedures for internal and client use.
- May provide strategic input on sales, marketing, and leadership initiatives to support practice growth.
- May represent MGT at conferences, webinars, or industry forums to promote thought leadership in human capital consulting.
- Makes routine decisions independently in accordance with professional standards, best practices, and MGT policies and procedures.
- Demonstrates professionalism, discretion, empathy, and respect in all interactions with colleagues and clients.
- Maintains required training, licensure, and certifications, and stays current on industry trends and best practices.
WHAT YOU’LL BRING:
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Public Administration, or a related field.
- Seven (7) years of progressively responsible experience in human resources.
- Four (4) years of experience in a lead role conducting classification, compensation administration, and benefits reviews in the public or private sector.
- Experience working with local government or public sector organizations, with a strong emphasis on classification and compensation administration.
- An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge and skills may be considered.
PREFERRED
- Master’s degree in a related field.
- SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-CP), SHRM Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP), or other recognized HR certification.
- Project Management Professional (PMP) or other project management certification.

Knowledge
- Public sector operations, positions, and policies, including local and state government, park districts, libraries, public higher education, and PK–12 education.
- Classification and compensation system design, implementation, and administration.
- Federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, including FLSA and ADA compliance.
- Career development, career laddering, and workforce planning concepts.
- Compensation benchmarking tools, salary surveys, Consumer Price Index, and Cost-of-Living Index methodologies.
- Research methods, data collection, and analytical practices.
Skills and Abilities
- Strong project management, consulting, and team leadership skills.
- Advanced analytical skills related to compensation programs, policies, union contracts, performance evaluation systems, and benefits.
- Ability to synthesize complex data and communicate findings clearly to diverse audiences.
- Excellent written and verbal communication, report writing, and presentation skills.
- Strong stakeholder and client relationship management skills, including the ability to manage sensitive or contentious situations professionally.
- Ability to exercise sound judgment and discretion when handling confidential information.
- Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects with competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- High level of proficiency with personal computers, data analysis tools, spreadsheets, survey platforms, and compensation analysis software.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within cross-functional teams.
