The Senior Consultant, Product & Illustration Modernization is a senior-level transformation leader responsible for driving the modernization of BMO Insurance's illustration capabilities. Working in close partnership with the Product and Pricing team, this role serves as the key business subject matter expert, bridging product, operations, technology, and transformation teams to ensure the successful delivery of a scalable, future-ready solution. Acting as a trusted advisor, the incumbent will provide strategic guidance, business leadership, and deep life insurance expertise to shape solution design, align stakeholders, and ensure business objectives are translated into high-quality outcomes that enhance the advisor and customer experience.
Illustration Platform Transformation
• Lead business participation in the transformation initiative to modernize illustration and advisor platforms.
• Support end-to-end modernization of illustration capabilities for Life Insurance and Living Benefit, and Wealth products.
• Act as a key business advisor during discovery, architecture, design, configuration, testing, implementation, and deployment activities.
• Ensure product functionality, illustration calculations, workflows, and user experiences are accurately represented within the target-state platform.
• Provide business leadership to ensure modernization objectives are achieved while minimizing operational disruption.
Leverage Product Subject Matter Expertise
• Work with recognized SMEs to interpret product specifications for the applicable product (whole life, UL, Term, CI, and SPIA), contracts, administrative practices, pricing intent, and regulatory requirements.
• Ensure product rules and illustration outputs are accurately reflected in the new platform.
• Support future-state product innovation by identifying opportunities enabled through modernization.
Business Analysis & Requirements Leadership
• Participate in analysis and design workshops, providing business and domain expertise to support requirements definition and solution design.
• Represent business perspectives and operational realities, helping project teams understand current-state processes, customer and advisor impacts, regulatory requirements, product constraints, and operational dependencies.
• Support requirement definition and refinement through clarification of business needs, product rules, exception scenarios, dependencies, success criteria.
• Validate business requirements, use cases, process documentation, and project artifacts to ensure alignment with intended business outcomes.
Solution Design & Decision Support
• Review proposed solution designs and process changes to ensure alignment with product strategy and operational needs.
• Evaluate solution options and trade-offs relating to configuration, customization, workflow design, and process standardization.
• Participate in prioritization discussions by assessing business value, risk implications, customer impacts, dependencies, and delivery complexity.
• Provide timely decisions and feedback to maintain program momentum and minimize delivery delays.
Stakeholder Leadership
• Establish strong working relationships across multiple stakeholder groups, including Product Management, Illustrations, Operations, Underwriting, Technology, Transformation Office, Project Management Office, Senior Advisory Leadership, and External vendor partners.
• Promote alignment across impacted business areas.
• Surface and resolve differences in process interpretation, requirements, priorities, and business expectations.
• Facilitate consensus while balancing competing stakeholder objectives.
Testing, Validation & Business Acceptance
• Support development of business test scenarios and acceptance criteria.
• Validate solution functionality against approved product rules and business requirements.
• Participate in user acceptance testing and business readiness activities.
• Confirm delivered capabilities support intended business outcomes.
• Identify and escalate defects, risks, gaps, and implementation concerns.
Change Management & Business Readiness
• Support communication, business readiness, and adoption activities.
• Advocate for target-state processes and standardized capabilities where appropriate.
• Balance current-state operational requirements with long-term transformation objectives.
• Assist with training development and knowledge transfer activities.
Risk Management & Governance
• Identify emerging business risks, issues, and dependencies.
• Support mitigation planning and issue resolution.
• Ensure compliance with applicable regulatory, legal, and operational requirements.
• Contribute to governance forums and steering committee discussions as required.
• Support disciplined documentation and decision management practices.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education
• University degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Business, Commerce, Technology, or a related discipline.
• Insurance industry certifications, project management credentials, or business analysis certifications are considered an asset.
Experience
• 10+ years of insurance industry experience.
• Demonstrated experience with Life Insurance products and illustration systems.
• Experience participating in large-scale platform modernization or transformation initiatives.
• Experience gathering and validating business requirements.
• Experience working with software vendors and technology delivery teams.
• Experience supporting or leading cross-functional project delivery.

Salary
$75,900.00 - $141,900.00

The above represents BMO Financial Group’s pay range and type.
Salaries will vary based on factors such as location, skills, experience, education, and qualifications for the role, and may include a commission structure. Salaries for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on number of hours regularly worked. For commission roles, the salary listed above represents BMO Financial Group’s expected target for the first year in this position.
BMO Financial Group’s total compensation package will vary based on the pay type of the position and may include performance-based incentives, discretionary bonuses, as well as other perks and rewards.
