About the Opportunity
Ellucian's Professional Services team is looking for a Platform Technical Architect to help higher education institutions successfully adopt and implement the Ellucian SaaS Platform. You will work directly with customers as a trusted technical advisor, helping them understand their technology landscape, shape practical architecture approaches, and make informed decisions throughout implementation.
This is a hands-on, customer-facing technical role that combines strong software and enterprise technology fundamentals with consulting, architecture, configuration, and delivery leadership. You will lead and contribute to technical workshops, guide environment and identity strategies, and personally configure, secure, connect, troubleshoot, and validate Ellucian SaaS platform services so they operate as a cohesive, secure, and supportable ecosystem throughout implementation.
You do not need to arrive knowing every Ellucian product. We value accomplished developers, technical consultants, and enterprise technologists who bring curiosity, structured problem solving, clear communication, and the ability to learn quickly. With support from experienced colleagues, you will progressively build the platform expertise and architectural independence needed to lead increasingly complex engagements.
Where You Will Make an Impact
Customer Consulting and Technical Leadership
- Build trusted customer relationships, understand institutional needs, and align technical architecture and implementation with business outcomes.
- Lead technical kickoffs, architecture workshops, platform presentations, and alignment discussions, communicating technical approaches, decisions, risks, and implementation roadmaps.
- Collaborate with customers, Project Managers, Architects, Cloud Operations, Product Engineering, and specialists to resolve challenges and achieve delivery milestones.
Platform Architecture and Technical Governance
- Design, document, and progressively lead Ellucian SaaS technical architecture, including diagrams, blueprints, design principles, standards, and technical decisions.
- Perform hands-on configuration, administration, implementation, and integration of Banner or Colleague SaaS, Experience, Insights, identity services, and supporting platform products.
- Validate platform capabilities and connections, troubleshoot issues, maintain technical documentation, and assess architectural impacts, dependencies, and risks.
Identity, Security, and Environment Strategy
- Lead technical discussions and implement configurations for identity federation, SSO, access management, user provisioning, permissions, and platform security.
- Define environment strategies covering configuration consistency, deployment sequencing, and technical readiness.
- Execute and validate configuration changes across environments, partnering with delivery teams and Cloud Operations to support testing, cutover, and go-live.
Implementation Readiness and Problem Solving
- Apply expertise in software, APIs, integrations, databases, scripting, and application architecture to troubleshoot cross-platform issues and coordinate resolution with relevant teams.
- Own hands-on platform readiness for testing, production deployment, go-live, and operational transition, validating platform configurations and connections.
- Partner with the Applications Architect on integration and extensibility dependencies, while keeping custom integration, API, and extensibility design and development within their scope.
- Leverage AI tools to automate tasks, streamline technical processes, and improve SaaS implementation efficiency, quality, and consistency with appropriate validation and security controls.
What You Will Bring
- 5+ years of hands-on technical experience configuring, implementing, integrating, and troubleshooting enterprise applications or SaaS platforms, with a foundation in software development, technical consulting, or related disciplines and the ability to translate architecture into working solutions.
- Working knowledge of application architecture, APIs, web services, integrations, scripting/programming, relational databases, SQL, and SaaS/cloud environments.
- Understanding of enterprise platform interactions, identity services, and security, with practical experience configuring and validating IAM, SSO, SAML federation, RBAC, user provisioning, and access controls.
- Experience leveraging AI tools for technical analysis, troubleshooting, automation, documentation, and solution development, ensuring output validation and customer data security.
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills, with the curiosity and adaptability to explore technologies, validate assumptions, and develop practical solutions.
- Strong presentation, workshop facilitation, and communication skills, including architecture diagramming, explaining technical concepts, and guiding discussions with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Collaborative, accountable team player with strong interpersonal skills, active listening, knowledge sharing, and experience working across multidisciplinary, globally distributed teams.
- Ability to understand customer business processes, identify needs, and align technical solutions and implementation decisions with business outcomes.
- Learning agility, sound judgment, and the ambition to grow into broader platform architecture and technical leadership responsibilities.
