SENIOR CONSULTANT – INVESTMENT PERFORMANCE & ATTRIBUTION

Senior Consultant - Investment Performance & Attribution is an individual contributor role responsible for delivering accurate, timely, and insightful performance and attribution analytics across a broad range of portfolios and investment vehicles. The role requires strong analytical capabilities, sound judgment, and expertise in performance measurement and attribution methodologies to support high-quality client reporting and investment decision-making.

The individual will lead the day-to-day execution of attribution activities, proactively managing data quality issues, resolving complex performance and attribution challenges, and ensuring adherence to internal controls and NTAM standards. The role partners closely with global Performance & Attribution teams to drive consistent practices, support scalable solutions, and advance continuous process improvement across regions.

In addition, the role serves as a catalyst for innovation by identifying and championing digital, automation, and process optimization initiatives that enhance operational efficiency, reduce manual effort, improve scalability, and strengthen the overall attribution operating model.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Act as a subject matter expert on Investment Performance Attribution and associated performance analytics to drive excellence across this practice.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in performance measurement, performance attribution, and investment performance analytics.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Product, Portfolio Management, Internal Controls, Legal, and Performance teams, to assess current operating models and design future-state processes, capabilities, and global operating frameworks that support evolving business needs.
  • Provide consultative support to clients on complex attribution capabilities, enabling the evaluation of investment vehicle performance within client portfolios and funds.
  • Partner with Portfolio Managers, Investment Specialists, Product Managers, and Client Relationship teams to explain attribution results and address complex analytical inquiries for use in presentations and client meetings.
  • Support investment teams with custom attribution analysis, reporting requests, and performance-related investigations.
  • Identify, recommend, and implement process improvements to enhance operational efficiency, scalability, and productivity.
  • Mentor, guide, and coordinate analyst teams, appropriately delegating responsibilities and ensuring the timely delivery of high-quality outputs.
  • Participate in global management forums, representing the region and proactively recommending solutions and initiatives to enhance client service and operational excellence.
  • Maintain strong working relationships with internal functional and support groups, providing SME expertise and strategic input into business and operating plans.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

  • Detailed understanding of the Performance and Attribution methodologies, asset management business, with expertise in fixed income, equity and multi-asset strategies.
  • Strong organizational, written, and verbal client servicing skills required. Must have excellent time management, interpersonal and multi-tasking skills
  • Ability to multitask, meet deadlines, adapt to change, and willing to overcome obstacles to accomplish goal.
  • Knowledge/experience with Aladdin, Eagle, Bloomberg, FactSet, MSCI Index Monitor, NT PACE, Custom Hierarchy, RADAR, Data Direct, and Integrated Reporting preferred.
  • Independent self-starter with an excellence in execution while ability to thrive in a collaborative team environment; possess excellent interpersonal skills to liaise with internal & external stakeholders.
  • Must be a critical thinker with excellent communication skills for presenting, listening, and writing functions. Strong presentation skills with ability to explain complex ideas at a high level
  • Understanding of how a client’s data flows through Northern Trust systems or vended tool is preferred
  • Ability to problem-solve, develop and evaluate solutions while planning and prioritizing client activities to manage relationships effectively.
  • Proactively determine client needs or issues by asking insightful questions and developing the client relationship while effectively managing client and business partner expectations

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION

  • Master’s degree in Finance, Economics or a related discipline strongly preferred; CFA and/or CIPM designation highly desirable.
  • Minimum of 9 years of hands-on experience in Investment Performance and/or Performance Attribution.
  • Deep expertise in performance measurement and attribution methodologies, including return calculation, performance analytics, and multi-asset attribution.
  • Strong understanding of the asset management industry, with a proven track record in performance and attribution analytics roles at a mid-to-large investment management firm.
  • Strong proficiency with investment performance systems, reporting platforms, and analytical tools and databases used in institutional asset management environments.
  • Prior project management experience - particularly in driving process improvements, system enhancements, or cross-functional initiatives - preferred.
