Your new job | About your main responsibilities

As a Consultant/Senior Consultant VAT Indirect Tax, you will be part of the Amsterdam Indirect Tax team, with a dedicated focus on VAT for the China Market. In this role, your main responsibilities include:

  • Advising Chinese multinational clients on EU VAT matters, supporting them throughout their European expansion and ongoing operations.
  • Working closely with Chinese headquarters and European subsidiaries, acting as a trusted advisor and cultural bridge between the Chinese business context and the European VAT landscape.
  • Collaborating with EY China desks and international colleagues to deliver coordinated, practical and high-quality advice.
  • Acting as a key contact for several Chinese clients, while actively managing and further expanding client relationships within the China market.
  • Contributing to the continued growth of EY’s China market proposition in the Netherlands.
  • Working with local and international colleagues from other tax and advisory areas of expertise, while staying up to date on relevant VAT laws, regulations and case law.

You will be working at the largest tax advisory practice in the Netherlands. Our Indirect Tax team consists of more than 100 colleagues and the majority has a focus primarily on VAT. The team is a nice mix of experienced, enthusiastic colleagues, from whom you can learn a lot. Within our practice, we provide specialized tax advice, represent clients in interactions with tax authorities and in tax litigation. We handle tax returns, offer training courses, and support and guide clients with their Tax Control Framework. Within our Indirect Tax practice, we have a dedicated team supporting the China headquartered clients. You will work closely with EY China and European China desks, supporting Chinese clients across multiple jurisdictions and service lines.

Additionally, we play an important role in Tax Technology, increasingly assisting clients with managing processes related to indirect tax and e-invoicing. In the first years, your personal development will be a priority. Our practice invests a lot in training and development, besides the NOB training program.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English and Mandarin.
  • A collaborative mindset and genuine enjoyment of working in a team.
  • Commercial acumen and confidence in a client-facing role.
  • Understanding of Chinese business culture and decision-making, with an interest in connecting Chinese headquarters and European tax realities.
