Ready to shape safe change across US Automated Clearing House payments processing?

Why HSBC

HSBC is one of the largest banking and financial services organizations in the world. Guided by our purpose of opening up a world of opportunity, our ambition is to become the world’s most trusted bank globally, putting customers at the heart of everything we do.

The Opportunity

This role sits at the heart of HSBC’s domestic payments capability, acting as the Technical Subject Matter Expert (SME) for Domestic Payments Automated Clearing House (ACH) primarily for US ACH payments. You’ll bridge product, operations and engineering to translate payments outcomes into robust, testable and compliant technical solutions. The work spans end-to-end ACH message flows, canonical data model mapping and payment processing with a focus on reusable technical services. You’ll also provide consultancy and support across other ACH scheme markets supported by HSBC running on a mainframe technology stack. Success means changes that are delivered safely and at pace with clear acceptance criteria, strong production operability and improved service performance.

What you'll be doing

  • Own end-to-end US ACH payment flow knowledge across initiation, validation, enrichment, routing, clearing and settlement, returns and recalls, investigations and reporting
  • Extend scheme SME support across other Automated Clearing House markets supported by HSBC running on a mainframe technology stack
  • Translate business outcomes into technical requirements and solution designs including application programming interface and service contracts, data mappings and non-functional requirements
  • Provide US Automated Clearing House expertise on the Fiserv PEP+ platform including message structure, market practice and mapping and translation rules
  • Partner with engineers to shape implementation approaches aligned to Future State Architecture and ensure designs are operable in production including monitoring, alerting, runbooks and support model
  • Create and manage epics, stories and tasks in Jira ensuring traceability from requirement to build to test to release
  • Coordinate incident communications with senior leaders, Business and Operations and help the team extract and share key insights quickly
  • Maintain governance and controls through Information Technology Service Owner responsibilities and coordinate audit evidence, responses and remediation actions to agreed timelines

What we're looking for

  • Bring proven experience as a Payments Technical Subject Matter Expert, Technical Business Analyst, Solution Analyst or Payments Consultant in an Automated Clearing House payments environment with a focus on US Automated Clearing House processing
  • Apply strong National Automated Clearing House Association expertise across scheme rules, processing lifecycle, exceptions and investigations
  • Use Fiserv PEP+ knowledge with practical experience in message analysis, mapping and processing on PEP+ and mainframe
  • Work confidently in Jira and Confluence as an advanced user across workflows, dashboards, reporting and structured documentation
  • Use Structured Query Language or equivalent to investigate data and validate processing outcomes
  • Apply system integration knowledge across application programming interfaces, messaging, batch versus real-time processing, data models and environments
  • Partner effectively with Business and Operations to clarify scope, feasibility and delivery expectations for change
  • Navigate mainframe files and reports to locate relevant data and provide insights efficiently

Strengthening US Automated Clearing House Payments

This is a chance to shape how change lands in a complex payments environment where clarity and control matter. You’ll sit close to real production outcomes, influencing solution design, delivery readiness and operational stability. The work has visible impact across Technology, Product and Operations through safer releases, smoother investigations and fewer repeat incidents. If you’re looking to apply deep Automated Clearing House and PEP+ expertise in a role that connects architecture, delivery and day-to-day service this is the opportunity.
