Senior Construction Manager – Utility & Mechanical Systems

St. Paul, MN | Direct Hire | $120K–$150K

We are partnering with a well-respected utility and mechanical construction firm to add a Senior Construction Manager to their team. This role provides leadership for construction projects involving piping, underground utilities, and mechanical systems. The ideal candidate has hands-on experience with utility, mechanical, or industrial construction, strong leadership skills, and a proven ability to manage union trades and subcontractors effectively.

Senior Construction Manager Responsibilities:

  • Oversee multiple construction projects, including piping, underground utilities, mechanical systems, and associated contractor work.
  • Manage 3–5 union trades personnel and coordinate with subcontractors to ensure projects are executed safely, on time, and within budget.
  • Lead project planning, scheduling, and coordination with city officials, vendors, and clients.
  • Review and verify contract documents, submittals, change orders, and as-built drawings for accuracy and compliance.
  • Maintain project safety standards and conduct site inspections to enforce compliance.
  • Provide mentorship, guidance, and performance oversight to direct reports.
  • Collaborate with project teams to resolve technical issues and improve construction processes.
  • Ensure proper documentation of all project activities and contractor performance.

Senior Construction Manager Qualifications:

  • Minimum 3–5 years of leadership/management experience in construction or utility projects.
  • Strong background in piping, utility, mechanical, electrical, or fiber/gas construction.
  • Post-secondary coursework or equivalent experience in math, written communications, piping systems and other areas related to energy systems technology and/or engineering, welding, and utility construction.
  • Experience managing union trades personnel preferred.
  • Proven mechanical aptitude and understanding of construction processes.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
  • Strong supervisory, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to navigate challenging jobsite environments and oversee multiple projects simultaneously
  • Ability to climb into and out of vaults and perform lifting of equipment.
  • Valid driver’s license and a good driving record.

Compensation & Benefits:

  • Competitive base salary: $120,000–$150,000 annually
  • Short-term incentive program / bonus eligibility
