The Opportunity

As a member of the Accounting Business Support team, the Senior Consolidations Accountant plays a key role in the design, implementation, enhancement, and ongoing support of TransCanada’s financial consolidation systems. This role partners closely with internal stakeholders to support complex financial transactions, drive system and process improvements, and ensure accurate, timely financial reporting across the enterprise.

This position reports to the Manager, Accounting Business Support, with working-level supervision provided by the Coordinator – ABS Consolidations.

What you'll do

  • Develop an in depth understanding of TransCanada’s Consolidation process

  • Take a lead role in working with our customers to determine how to appropriately use the consolidation system to represent complex financial transactions, including lead roles in projects involving acquisitions and divestitures

  • Identify, implement and test system/process changes to enhance the consolidation process

  • Train end users in the use of the consolidation system

  • Maintaining and updating BPC standardized reports utilized by end users

  • Updating Power Query reports to ensure new activity is correctly captured

  • Proactively monitor the consolidation system/process to avoid delays in financial reporting

  • Work with our customers to resolve system/process issues

  • Monitoring SAP BPC security access

Minimum Qualifications

  • University degree in Business or Commerce

  • Minimum 6 years of progressive accounting related experience

  • Canadian Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation

  • Superior SAP Enterprise Performance Management (EPM) skills

  • Superior SAP BPC (Specifically Consolidations) skills

  • Strong Excel skills

  • Experience with Financial Consolidations

Preferred Qualifications

  • A good understanding of SAP FICO modules

  • Knowledge and experience with US Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)

  • Excellent organizational skills with ability to manage multiple and competing priorities

  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to interact effectively with counterparts in the Company

  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills

  • Demonstrates the ability to make decisions and recommendations within established accounting procedures

  • Strong attention to detail
