Purpose
The Senior Configurator II, Workday is responsible for leading advanced Workday configuration, solution design, system optimization, and production support across assigned functional areas. This role serves as a senior functional and technical resource, partnering with HR, IT, Payroll, Talent, Compensation, Benefits, Recruiting, and business stakeholders to deliver scalable, sustainable, and compliant Workday solutions.
This position translates business needs into effective system configuration, evaluates upstream and downstream impacts, troubleshoots complex issues, and ensures solutions align with enterprise processes, governance, security, and the broader HR technology roadmap.
The Senior Configurator II is expected to operate with a high degree of ownership, independently managing configuration work from intake through deployment and post-production support. This role also supportsrelease readiness, mentors team members, strengthens documentation practices, and contributes to continuous improvement across the Workday ecosystem.
Key Responsibilities
Lead Workday configuration for assigned functional areas, which may include Core HCM, Talent, Performance, Compensation, Recruiting, Absence, Time Tracking, Benefits, Payroll-related configuration, Reporting, or related modules.
Partner with HR, IT, and business stakeholders to gather requirements, assess business needs, and recommend scalable Workday solutions.
Own configuration from design through build, testing, deployment, release support, and post-production support.
Configure and maintain business processes, condition rules, eligibility rules, validations, notifications, calculated fields, security considerations, and related Workday functionality.
Assess upstream and downstream impacts across modules, integrations, reporting, security, payroll, compliance, and business processes.
Troubleshoot complex Workday issues, perform root cause analysis, and provide timely resolution options.
Support Workday release management by reviewing new functionality, completing regression testing, assessing business impact, and recommending adoption opportunities.
Partnerson Workday projects, enhancements, process improvements, and system optimization initiatives.
Maintain clear documentation for configuration design, testing outcomes, decisions, risks, dependencies, and support procedures.
Support intake and prioritization discussions by providing feasibility assessments, effort estimates, and solution recommendations.
Ensure Workday solutions are sustainable, supportable, compliant, and aligned with internal governance and long-term HR technology strategy.
Mentor and support configurators, analysts, and support team members by sharing knowledge, reviewing solutions, and reinforcing best practices.
Stay current on Workday functionality, release updates, community insights, and relevant training opportunities.
Minimum Requirements
5+ years of Workday experience, including 3+ years of hands-on configuration.
Experience configuring at least one major Workday module, such as HCM, Talent, Compensation, Recruiting, Absence, Time Tracking, Benefits, or Payroll-related configuration.
Proven ability to own configuration from requirements gathering through design, build, testing, deployment, release support, and post-production support.
Strong understanding of Workday business processes, condition rules, eligibility rules, validations, notifications, calculated fields, and reporting dependencies.
Ability to assess downstream impacts across modules, integrations, security, reporting, payroll, and business processes.
Experience troubleshooting complex Workday issues and performing root cause analysis.
Strong documentation, communication, stakeholder partnership, and prioritization skills.
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Workday Pro certification or Workday training in relevant functional areas.
Experience in a large enterprise environment with complex organizational structures, high transaction volume, and multiple stakeholder groups.
Cross-functional Workday experience across multiple modules or business areas.
Experience with Workday security, reporting, integrations, release governance, or testing frameworks.
Experience mentoring junior configurators, analysts, or support team members.
Experience supporting governance practices, intake processes, release planning, configuration documentation, and continuous improvement efforts.
