Job Description

Are you passionate about shaping reward frameworks that support business strategy and enable sustainable growth?

As Senior Compensation & Benefits Specialist in our Center of Excellence (CoE), you will play a key role in developing, governing, and executing Bavarian Nordic’s global rewards agenda, ensuring consistency, compliance, and strong business alignment across the organization.

You will own and drive core compensation, incentives, and benefits processes globally, partner closely with senior leaders, HRBPs, Finance, and external stakeholders, and contribute directly to executive and Board-level compensation governance.

Key responsibilities

  • Total Rewards Strategy & Governance
Develop and execute the total rewards agenda and ensure alignment with organizational priorities and the CoE roadmap. Ensure simple, compliant compensation processes globally, and promote consistency across regions. Own and maintain the global pay philosophy, pay ranges, and level assessments, ensuring market alignment and internal consistency.
  • Collaboration & Leadership
Act as the Senior Rewards Expert within the CoE and guide and develop the compensation and benefits specialist. This includes supporting the specialist with leading the annual salary review, bonus review, and LTI warrant processes, including forecasting of warrant requirements for the AGM. Contribute across adjacent areas such as systems, analytics, and broader P&O initiatives.
  • Executive compensation
Manage executive compensation, including preparation of the annual remuneration report and NomCom materials.
  • Compensation & Incentives
Ensure incentives are focused on and aligned with business needs. Own and maintain severance policy and ensure consistency. Support negotiations related to collective bargaining where relevant.
  • Benefits & Pensions
Own and maintain global benefits programs, including pensions and insurances, in collaboration with third-party vendors. Lead benefit reviews to ensure relevance, competitiveness, and consistency across regions.
  • Pay Transparency & Compliance
Own pay transparency processes and respond to complex questions related to fair pay. Ensure simple, compliant compensation processes globally and support ESG reporting, including quarterly gender and CEO/employee pay gap calculations. A dedicated project manager is implementing pay transparency enabled by a new Workday module, and while you are expected to be a significant contributor, you are not owning the implementation.
  • Stakeholder & Vendor Management
Partner with business leaders, HRBPs, Finance, and external advisors. Manage relationships with benefits providers, benchmarking partners, and other external vendors. Participate in Rewards Steering Committees and cross-functional governance forums.

How to be successful in this role
To succeed, you proactively drive rewards initiatives that balance business needs, governance, and employee experience. You bring strong analytical and stakeholder skills, ensure consistency across complex compensation landscapes, and communicate confidently with executive leadership and governance bodies. You are comfortable operating in a listed-company environment and translating regulatory and market requirements into pragmatic rewards solutions.

Key competencies

  • Strong expertise in compensation and rewards, including STI, LTI, and forecasting
  • Experience with executive compensation and NomCom processes in listed companies
  • Ability to prepare and present materials at Board and Executive level
  • Strong cross-functional collaboration and stakeholder management skills
  • Good understanding of pay transparency, fair pay, and regulatory requirements
  • Strategic mindset combined with strong analytical and business acumen

Experience with mergers or integrations, as well as familiarity with Workday and project management, is considered an advantage but not required.
