The Senior Manager is a strategic driver of the Center’s fundraising narrative and donor experience, helping translate world-class, fact-based research into compelling opportunities for philanthropic investment. Working across communications, fundraising, research, finance and legal, this rolecreatesdonor-facing communications and partner engagement Thesenior manager willidentifyhigh-value opportunities to align prospect outreach with broader Center messaging and developing persuasive concept notes, budgets and outreach plans that move initiatives from idea to funded work.
The Senior Managerisalsoresponsible for ensuringthat donors, The Pew Charitable Trusts, and the Center’s board,are well informed about the Center’s research and influence,maintainingoversight of deadlines,deliverablesand compliance requirements, and ensuring internal teams are fully briefed on funder expectations. In partnership with colleagues across the organization, the role leads end-to-end grant reporting—synthesizing qualitative and quantitative data into crisp, evidence-based narratives thatdemonstrateimpact, deepen funderconfidenceand meet every requirement on time.
Thesenior manager alsosupports executive communications by managing stakeholder requests for the executive team They help the Center’s presidentand executive team with presentations, press engagements, and social media outreach, including coordinating with external partners, the president’s office, and social and digital teams to maximize visibility and impact.

This position reports to the Managing Director of Strategic Communications with a dotted line to thechief of staffin the president’s office.
Primary responsibilities
Funder/donorstewardshipcoordination and project management
Draft, edit, and oversee the production of tailored written materials for donors, prospects and connectors, including concept papers, proposals, stewardship reports, collateral, and other creative updates on funder investments with the Center.
Translate the Center’s work into prospect and donor communications that are compelling and connected to the core priorities of the institution.
Develop budgetsto support fundraising and donor relations
Contribute to grant proposals and agreements,managing the internal process that ensures adequate consultation with research, communications, finance,legaland HR
Regularlycommunicate aboutfundraisingactivityto key groups across the organization.
Identifyopportunities to incorporateprospectoutreach into Center communications activities.
Ensure that the Center’s president, chief of staff,head of new research initiatives, and research directors are well prepared to make decisions about fundraising strategy.
Document and track grant deadlines,deliverablesand requirements for current donors.
Brief communications and research colleagues on grant requirements, working together to ensure effective and smooth collaboration for partnerships.
Monitor press mentions of key partners andadvisecommunications leadership on reputation management.
Grant reporting
Work with fundraising,communicationsand research colleagues to prepare reports for funder or partner organizations.
Analyze quantitative and qualitative data to highlight the impact of our work.
Write and edit narrative grant reports.
Projectmanagegrant reports, ensuring all necessary internal stakeholdersare consulted and that reports areaccurate,thoroughand completed on deadline
Executive Communications
Manage stakeholder requests for the executive team, including strategic counsel, liaising with the external party,preparingtalking points andpresentations,and liaising with the social and digital teams to maximize visibility.
Identifyopportunities for the Center’s president and executive vice president to spotlight the work of the Center.
Draft written materials for the Pew CharitableTrustsand Pew Research Center board of directors on research and partnerships.
Education/training/experience requirements
Bachelor's degree in public relations, communications, fundraising/developmentor related field.
10+years of relevant experience in communications,fundraisingor donor relations.
Experience in a national or international nonprofit, foundation or think tank environment preferred.
Knowledge and skills requirements
Excellent project management skills. Project management certificationa plus
Exceptionalwriting andverbal communication skills.
Able to work in a team, and across functions, under deadline with diplomacy and poise.
Knowledge of communications strategic planning, fundraising or development, and Creative and strategic thinker.
Highly organized, detail-orientedand able to juggle multiple projects.
Knowledge of project management systems (such asAsana)
Experience writing grant proposals,agreementsand reports
Experience developingprogrambudgets
Familiarity with tracking and analyzing quantitative and qualitative metrics data.
Knowledge of media management tools (such as Meltwater), and analytics tools (such as Parse.ly)are a plus
FLSA status:Exempt
Typical starting salary for Senior Communications Manager: $104,000
Hybrid Work Schedule Pew Research Center staff are required to be present in the Center's Washington, D.C., office three core days weekly (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday). Staff may work virtually from remote locations on other days in a typical work week.
