Job Description

About Us

The Australian Computer Society (ACS) is Australia's leading professional association for the technology community, representing over 40,000 members across industry, government, and education. For more than 60 years, ACS has been a member-led not-for-profit
committed to advancing Australia's technology capability; powering technological brilliance, strengthening education, and accelerating innovation across business and industry

About the Role

We're looking for a hands on Senior Commercial Manager to take full ownership of a defined portfolio of member-focused products and programs within ACS. This is a focused, high-accountability role, you'll drive the commercial performance of your portfolio from strategy through to execution, working across a lean cross-functional team to make it happen.

You'll own the numbers, shape the roadmap, design the go-to-market approach, and ensure every initiative in your portfolio translates into real member value and measurable financial outcomes. Alongside that, you'll help lift the commercial capability of the people around you, sharing frameworks, challenging thinking, and setting a high bar for how commercial work gets done.

This is a role for someone who wants depth, not breadth; a seasoned operator who gets genuine satisfaction from owning a portfolio completely and doing the work themselves.

This role is offered as a 12-month fixed-term contract, with the potential to become permanent.

What you’ll do

You'll take full accountability for the commercial performance of your assigned member-focused portfolio, including:

  • Owning P&L-linked OKRs across revenue, margin, and cost-to-serve and driving the strategies that move them.
  • Building and executing Go-To-Market plans that connect product vision to commercial outcomes, working closely with marketing, sales, and member experience teams.
  • Identifying high-value member segments and untapped opportunities within your portfolio, turning insight into a prioritised commercial roadmap.
  • Designing pricing models, value propositions, and monetisation approaches that drive conversion and recurring member revenue.
  • Managing the full lifecycle of portfolio initiatives; from business case through to sunset and with a clear focus on margin and operational efficiency.
  • Establishing commercial standards within your portfolio team: rigorous business cases, pricing reviews, market validation, and delivery hygiene.
  • Acting as the escalation point to clear blockers and keep your portfolio's time-to-value on track.

What success looks like

  • Revenue, gross margin, and cost-to-serve targets are met consistently across your portfolio.
  • Member adoption and acquisition rates within the portfolio grow year on year.
  • Roadmap initiatives land on time, on budget, and deliver measurable commercial return.
  • Your portfolio team works to a higher commercial standard; better business cases, sharper market thinking, more disciplined delivery.
  • Sales, Marketing, and the Executive team trust your commercial judgement and act on it.

About You

  • 10+ years’ experience in commercial, product, or strategy roles with accountability for revenue and margin.
  • Proven experience owning or influencing P&L performance.
  • Strong capability in Go-To-Market strategy and execution.
  • Experience developing pricing, packaging, and monetisation models, ideally with recurring revenue.
  • Analytical and commercially minded, with the ability to translate insights into clear priorities.
  • Comfortable operating in lean or evolving environments, building structure and discipline where needed.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence across functions.
  • Hands-on approach, with a focus on delivery as well as strategy.
  • Experience in a membership, association, or community-led organisation is advantageous.

Why Join ACS?

  • Deep ownership of a meaningful portfolio within an organisation that has shaped Australia's technology profession for 60 years.
  • A lean, high-trust environment where your decisions matter and your impact is directly visible.
  • Close access to leadership and genuine influence on how commercial work gets done across the organisation.
  • A mission that matters; supporting the people and organisations building Australia's technology future.

Rewards and Benefits

  • Flexible Hybrid Work Environment – Balanced mix of remote and in-person collaboration.
  • Extra Leave Benefits – Including gifted days, recharge day, and two floating holidays.
  • Professional Development – Skillsoft access, MySFIA skills assessment, and an annual training allowance.
  • Inclusive and Engaging Culture – Regular connection days, learning sessions, and a supportive, values-driven team.
  • ACS Membership – Complimentary membership with access to CPD, networking, and industry insights.
  • Wellbeing & Financial Support – Salary packaging and a confidential Employee Assistance Program.
  • Family-Friendly Policies – Flexible and inclusive leave options for parents and caregivers.
