The Opportunity

Due to a retirement, we're seeking a Senior Commercial Business Partner to support our high-performing BlueScope Building Components QLD & NT business, based in Archerfield, QLD.

This is a high-impact leadership role, sitting on both the National Commercial Leadership Team and the QLD & NT State Business Leadership Team. Partnering closely with senior leaders across the business, you'll provide trusted commercial insight, strategic guidance and performance advice that helps shape business decisions and drive sustainable investment and growth.

Your focus will be on helping leaders make informed decisions, improve performance and deliver the region’s strategic objectives.

The State Business

BlueScope Building Components, a division of BlueScope in Australia, manufactures and markets steel building products, solutions and services through its four leading brands: Lysaght, Fielders, Ranbuild and Kiteleys. Collectively, the four businesses offer a comprehensive range of steel products, services and solutions to the Australian building and construction industry.

What You Will Do

  • maximise commercial performance: partner with the State Manager and leadership team to develop and implement strategies that enhance EBIT, optimise the balance sheet and support delivery of business objectives
  • provide meaningful commercial insight: look beyond financial results to identify the drivers of performance and provide clear analysis, advice and constructive challenge to support decision-making
  • shape strategy and business decisions: bring a whole-of-business perspective to planning, investment decisions (including capex), commercial opportunities and operational priorities
  • strengthen governance and manage risk: ensure effective financial controls, commercial governance and risk management practices are embedded
  • work across organisational boundaries: build collaborative relationships across sales, operations, finance and other functions to develop a strong understanding of the end-to-end business
  • deliver business improvement: identify, prioritise and progress a pipeline of significant improvement initiatives aligned with strategic objectives
  • champion change and innovation: monitor the internal and external environment to identify better ways of working, improvement opportunities and relevant new technologies
  • translate insight into action: connect financial, commercial and operational information to help the business improve performance and achieve sustainable outcomes

What You Bring

You look beyond the numbers to provide meaningful commercial insights and advice through a whole-of-business lens. You can demonstrate:

  • a tertiary qualification in Accounting, Finance, Commerce or a related discipline
  • extensive finance and commercial experience within a complex business
  • the ability to understand performance beyond the financial data and identify the operational and commercial factors shaping business results
  • proven ability to influence strategy and business decisions
  • the ability to communicate complex financial and commercial information clearly to varied stakeholders
  • the confidence to navigate ambiguity, competing priorities and organisational boundaries
  • a proactive approach to engaging internal customers and understanding their business needs
