Job Description

The Senior Commercial Application Engineer is an established leader in their respective engineering/CAE team – in this case, Cyber Security, HMI, and Controls Lifecare Services (CLS). This position will drive business strategy through detailed technical and economic understanding of the marketplace, application, and take the initiative to drive sales to provide customers with the best solutions that positively impact business. The Senior Commercial Application Engineer serves as the technological point person for the business for the entire Inquiry to Order (ITO) phase.

What You'll Do

  • Developing technical and commercial proposals for Cyber Security applications across multiple industries including FEED documents, hardware and software demonstrations and consultative selling skills.
  • Design and own the rollout of new Oracle CPQ models to support the Quoting Process 2.0 initiative across SCS, managing the technical design, input from supporting teams, and coordinating with the DT implementation team.
  • Reviewing and influence customer specifications to assure compliance and/or noted exceptions for development of equipment and service proposals.
  • Provide specific project proposal support to regional team as necessary, including competitive strategy, RFQ review/analysis, technical scoping/costing and proposal development of hardware and service package solutions to meet the needs of the customer while growing long range plan for identified markets.
  • Providing commercialization support and development of current and future solutions including joint site visits, sales calls, and seminars as well as technical presentations to all levels of customer’s organization.
  • Provide technical support to create subcontractor specifications or bid packages.
  • Contributing to, and leverage, existing technical library of source materials related to industry applications, system configurations / hardware, design standards, etc. to provide timely technical information.
  • Work and collaborate directly with Product Line Leaders, engineers, and supply chain for NPIs, proposal language and technical solution updates.
  • Responsible for leading, coordinating and creation of technical proposals for Complex Control Solutions & Services offerings.
  • Has in-depth knowledge of best practices and how their specialty offerings integrate with others; has working knowledge of competition and the factors that differentiate GE in the market.
  • Acts as a resource for colleagues with less experience. Explains difficult or sensitive information; works to build consensus. Developing persuasion skills required to influence others on topics within field.
  • Identify key internal & external stakeholders and their needs such as providing them with the best technical solution, execution strategy, and drives effective communications to align people for efficient work.
  • Provides peer reviews on specification, nuclear, or highly complex proposals.
  • Consultant for CAE’s to utilize when faced with template, tool, scope or other issues.
  • Responsible for implementing and training CAE’s on new processes, tools and procedures.
  • Serve as the technological point person for the entire Inquiry to Order (ITO) phase.
  • Action owner for workouts, Kaizens, and other lean events.
  • Familiar and able to redline the first round of terms and conditions negotiations.

What you’ll bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an accredited university or college.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in Field service or requisition engineering and/or commercial experience developing proposals and establishing customer contracts.
  • Extensive application/design knowledge of Cyber Security and control systems
  • Experience managing projects or opportunities from beginning to end including the review of contract language (terms and conditions).
  • Creative solution and problem solving skills as well as effective written and oral communication skills.
  • Able and willing to travel between 20% and 25% for short customer meetings and customer site walks.
