We are currently looking for a Senior Commercial Accountant & Settlements Analyst for our Houston, TX office.

POSITION PURPOSE:

The Senior Revenue & Settlements Analyst supports Boardwalk Continuum Marketing business. The Senior Commercial Accountant & Settlements Analyst plays a critical role in ensuring the integrity of commercial accounting, revenue recognition, settlements, and financial reporting activities supporting Boardwalk Continuum Marketing's natural gas marketing and trading operations. This position serves as a key liaison between Accounting, Commercial Operations, Scheduling, Risk Management, and Legal to ensure accurate accounting treatment of complex commercial arrangements, timely settlement of physical transactions, and reliable financial reporting.

The role requires a strong understanding of natural gas marketing transactions, derivative accounting, revenue recognition, internal controls, and ETRM systems. The successful candidate will proactively identify risks and opportunities, drive process improvements, support strategic business initiatives, and provide financial insights that support management decision-making.

Key Responsibilities

  • Research and document accounting conclusions related to complex commercial agreements under ASC 606, ASC 815 and other applicable accounting guidance.
  • Ensure contract classification complies with company accounting policies and applicable accounting standards
  • Maintain and enhance internal controls over revenue, settlements and reporting processes
  • Perform month-end close procedures, including account reconciliations and variance analysis
  • Analyze and explain fluctuations in revenue, margins, and volumes
  • Prepare monthly management reports related to volumes, revenue, margins, and settlement activity.
  • Support and improve forecasting, budgeting, and financial planning processes by leveraging ETRM
  • Monitor key performance indicators and identify process improvement opportunities
  • Develop, automate and maintain reports utilizing Excel, Power BI, and other reporting tools
  • Accurately perform wholesale physical gas settlements / reconciliations
  • Manage monthly pipeline/counterparty invoicing, dispute resolution, and assist with cash application questions.
  • Interface directly with front office, scheduling, and risk management to resolve billing mismatches in a timely manner
  • Be familiar with pipeline websites/electronic bulletin boards (EBBs), navigate the EBBs to gather necessary pipeline support to resolve discrepancies with counterparties
  • Process and pay transport charges as well as pipeline imbalance settlements
  • Ensure agreement of ETRM and detail spreadsheets prior to settlement deadline
  • Communicate with schedulers, settlements analysts, and pipeline representatives as necessary. Act as a liaison to resolve issues between Finance and Scheduling

REQUIRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelors degree in Accounting or Finance
  • Experience interpreting and accounting for commercial contracts
  • Experienced in Excel and Microsoft Office suite
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Requires commercial presence and ability to work with senior management
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to multi-task
  • 5+ years in energy commodities/trading back-office operations, physical gas accounting, or settlements; proficiency with ETRM systems (OpenLink Endur) and Excel

PREFERRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Experience in related analytical role
  • Experience accounting for derivatives under ASC 815
  • Understanding of ASC 606 revenue recognition
  • Experience in Power BI

REQUIRED EDUCATION

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Economics or Finance

PREFERRED EDUCATION

  • CPA
