Scheduled Hours

40The ideal candidate will perform laboratory testing using multiple clinical laboratory instruments and laboratory developed tests. Testing will support clinical and translational research for novel biomarker discovery and implementation of in vitro diagnostics spanning clinical chemistry, hematology, coagulation, and molecular diagnostics. This position will perform assays on blood, body fluids, and urine as well as assist with all technical aspects of clinical and research studies and experiments, including preparation of study materials and all appropriate documentation.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Performs testing on routine and high-complexity assays according to laboratory Standard Operating Procedures. Includes routine maintenance and troubleshooting of various newly developed instruments and equipment.
  • Reviews assay data. Solves routine problems without supervisory assistance. Participates in complex problem resolution.
  • Serves as a resource for medical technologists and laboratory technicians. Trains new employees on instrumentation and procedures.
  • Assists with the development and validation of new assays. Assists with updates and the development of procedure manuals and operating procedures. Utilizes database, excel spreadsheet and word processing programs.
  • Complies with all regulatory and client requirements for testing and documentation.
  • Demonstrates a general understanding of assay methods and clinical relevance. Participates in relevant continuing education.
  • Occasionally performs initial statistical analysis and review of data for newly brought up assays; prepares initial result reports for supervisory review.
  • Assists supervisor with other duties and special projects as needed.

  • Work is performed in a clinical laboratory with exposure to body fluids and chemical hazards including blood-borne pathogens.
  • Must be physically able to wear personal protective equipment.

Salary Range

$28.01 - $43.44 / HourlyThe salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
