The Senior Clinical Informaticist, AI Transformation will serve as a key member of the UHealth Innovation Lab, supporting UHealth’s enterprise strategy for AI-enabled transformation across clinical operations, research, and education. This role will report to the Chief Health AI Transformation Officer and will focus on translating strategic AI priorities into practical, safe, clinically meaningful, and measurable implementations.The Senior Clinical Informaticist will provide hands-on leadership and execution across various phases of project lifecycles including technical analysis, solution development, stakeholder engagement, clinical workflow assessment, training, clinical validation, governance preparation, implementation support, impact evaluation, and results dissemination. The role will work closely with stakeholders including clinical departments, operational leaders, informaticists, IT teams, data science and analytics teams, compliance, education leaders, researchers, and external partners.This position is designed for an experienced clinical informatics leader with deep expertise in relevant areas including electronic health record (EHR) workflows, clinical decision support (CDS), stakeholder-facing implementation, and the practical delivery of technology-enabled clinical transformation.

Responsibilities

Essential Functions

  • Technical analysis & workflow design — Conduct current-state workflow reviews, data/EHR integration analyses, and feasibility evaluations. Develop requirements specifications, user stories, clinical logic, validation plans, and testing scripts for AI-enabled tools spanning patient-level applications, population analytics, workflow automation, AI-assisted review, and CDS. Surface implementation risks, data quality issues, and governance needs early.
  • Stakeholder engagement & change enablement — Run discovery sessions, workflow walk-throughs, and validation reviews with stakeholders including clinicians, operational leaders, researchers, and educators. Build consensus by translating across clinical, technical, compliance, and executive perspectives. Produce communication materials, FAQs, and training aids to support adoption.
  • Clinical validation, safety & governance — Lead validation activities including test case development, chart review, and prospective/retrospective validation. Coordinate with governance groups and address risks such as clinical accuracy, bias, alert fatigue, human oversight, and regulatory compliance. Support post-deployment monitoring and continuous improvement.
  • Education & capacity building — Develop training on safe, effective AI use, including AI limitations, regulatory considerations, and clinical validation. Mentor team members and create scalable, reusable resources.
  • Measurement, evaluation, & dissemination — Design feasible study approaches and track metrics across clinical quality, safety, efficiency, clinician/patient experience, and ROI. Contribute to evaluation reports, manuscripts, and dissemination.
  • Innovation Lab operations — Drive day-to-day execution of AI initiatives, coordinate across stakeholders including engineers, informaticists, subject matter experts, compliance, and IT. Contribute to standard operating procedures for the Lab. Stay current on relevant topics such as healthcare AI, EHR-integrated AI, and AI governance.

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

  • Demonstrated experience engaging clinical and operational stakeholders to define needs, translate workflows into technical requirements, and support implementation.
  • Experience working in complex healthcare delivery environments with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Strong understanding of clinical workflows, EHR-integrated tools, patient safety, governance, and operational implementation.
  • Ability to conduct detailed technical and clinical analyses while communicating clearly with nontechnical stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated reliability, ownership, follow-through, and ability to deliver high-quality work across multiple concurrent priorities.
  • Excellent written, verbal, facilitation, documentation, and presentation skills.

Qualifications

Required

  • Advanced clinical degree or equivalent clinical background, such as RPH, PharmD, MD, DO, DNP, or other relevant clinical professional training.
  • Five years experience in relevant healthcare technology areas such as clinical informatics, health IT, EHR implementation, CDS, digital health, AI, and analytics.

Qualifications (Preferred)

Preferred

  • Master’s degree or higher in biomedical informatics, data science, computer science, or a related field.
  • Experience designing or conducting clinical validation, implementation evaluation, quality improvement, or applied informatics research.
  • Experience developing or delivering education and training for clinicians or healthcare professionals.
  • Experience publishing, presenting, or disseminating applied informatics work.
