Job Description
Burrow Global is seeking a Senior Civil & Structural Infrastructure Engineer to design, scale, and optimize next-generation civil foundation and structural framework architectures for frontier AI Data Centers in Texas.
In this role, you will act as a primary technical authority managing multi-megawatt campus site developments, heavy equipment foundations, and high-load structural facilities. You will solve the structural and geotechnical challenges driven by ultra-dense, GPU-accelerated computing clusters (scaling from 40 kW to over 150 kW per rack, resulting in extreme floor loading and liquid weight distribution).
Your core focus will stretch from campus site development, stormwater management, and substation foundations down to whitespace raised floor slab design and heavy MEP overhead support structures. You will ensure continuous structural integrity, vibration isolation, and physical resilience against extreme weather events across massive hyperscale campuses.
Core Responsibilities
- Heavy-Load Structural & Slab Design: Architect, standardize, and scale high-capacity reinforced concrete slabs-on-grade, elevated structural slabs, and foundation systems capable of supporting extreme point loads from ultra-dense GPU racks, fluid-filled immersion tanks, and massive Coolant Distribution Units (CDUs).
- Vibration & Dynamic Load Mitigation: Utilize structural finite element analysis (FEA) and dynamic load modeling to engineer vibration-isolated foundations and support structures that absorb dynamic harmonics and acoustic resonances from high-capacity chillers, cooling towers, backup generators, and BESS installations.
- Campus Civil Site Infrastructure: Oversee large-scale site development across 100 MW to 1 GW+ campuses, including earthwork, grading, site drainage, retention ponds, utility corridor routing, flood mitigation systems, and heavy-haul access roads designed for transformer and turbine delivery.
- Overhead Equipment Support & Whitespace Framing: Partner with mechanical and electrical teams to design engineered steel framing, ceiling grid supports, and pipe/cable bus racks capable of carrying heavy, liquid-filled piping headers, electrical busways, and overhead cable trays.
- Substation & Generation Support Structures: Design robust foundations and structural steel supports for medium/high-voltage substations, natural gas turbine enclosures, fuel storage facilities, and high-density Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS).
- Cross-Functional MEP Engineering: Collaborate with electrical and mechanical engineering disciplines to ensure structural foundations accommodate complex subterranean MEP utility penetrations, liquid containment basins, and underground power conduit vaults.
- Structural Inspection, QA/QC & Field Verification: Author and oversee structural Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) protocols, geotechnical testing oversight, bolt/weld field inspections, and foundation load testing during installation and commissioning phases.
Required Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a closely related technical field. A Master’s degree in Structural or Geotechnical Engineering is a plus.
- Experience: 7 to 10+ years of progressive structural and civil engineering experience in hyperscale data centers, mission-critical infrastructure, heavy industrial facilities, or power generation sites.
- Structural Modeling & Analysis: Advanced, hands-on proficiency with structural analysis software (e.g., RISA-3D, ETABS, SAP2000, or STAAD.Pro) and civil site modeling tools (e.g., AutoCAD Civil 3D).
- Geotechnical & Seismic Mechanics: Deep working familiarity with deep/shallow foundation design (drilled piers, post-tensioned slabs, concrete mat foundations), soil-structure interaction analysis, seismic lateral load resisting systems (LLRS), and dynamic load response.
- Standards & Codes: Comprehensive knowledge of ACI 318 (Building Code Requirements for Structural Concrete), AISC 360 (Specification for Structural Steel Buildings), ASCE 7 (Minimum Design Loads and Associated Criteria for Buildings), IBC, and Texas regional stormwater/environmental regulations.
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional Credentials: Active Professional Engineer (PE) license in the State of Texas (or ability to obtain reciprocity within 6 months); Structural Engineer (SE) license is a major plus.
- AI & Liquid Cooling Structural Experience: Direct experience designing structural slabs and overhead support frameworks specifically tailored for heavy, high-density liquid cooling setups (e.g., immersion cooling fluid mass, direct-to-chip manifold distribution).
- Site Development & Local Permitting: Established experience navigating Texas municipal civil permitting, TxDOT access compliance, and local flood control district regulations (e.g., Harris County Flood Control District or Central Texas river authorities).
