Shape the Future of Water Infrastructure with Egis
- London | Bristol | Manchester (Hybrid)
- Civil Engineering Design | UK‑Wide Impact | High‑Growth Environment
Egis is expanding rapidly in the UK, backed by a global team of more than 23,500 experts across 70+ countries. We design and deliver intelligent, sustainable infrastructure to address climate challenges and strengthen community resilience. As part of our fast‑growing UK Water team, you will join an agile environment where progression is quick, visibility is high, and your impact is immediate.
About the Role
The UK water sector is entering a period of unprecedented investment and transformation. As Egis accelerates the growth of its Water Business in the UK, we are building a high-performing Civil Engineering team to help shape this next chapter.
We are inviting applicants who want to play a meaningful role in delivering major water and wastewater programmes. Working within a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment, you will contribute to technically robust, sustainable and innovative treatment solutions across nationally significant projects.
This is a rare opportunity to join at a key stage of our UK growth journey, helping to establish, shape and expand a civil engineering capability built on Egis’ global infrastructure expertise and long-term commitment to the sector.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead defined civil design tasks or work packages across feasibility, optioneering, concept, outline and detailed design for water, wastewater and bioresources/sludge treatment projects.
- Prepare, check and coordinate civil engineering deliverables including calculations, layouts, models, drawings, schedules, specifications, design reports and technical notes.
- Take ownership of assigned civil packages, managing technical quality, discipline interfaces, scope, budget, programme and change.
- Lead site visits, surveys, data reviews and technical discussions with clients, operators, contractors, suppliers and technology providers.
- Develop practical civil design solutions and hydraulic models for treatment works, tanks, channels, chambers, buried/above-ground structures, pipework supports, access arrangements, drainage, utilities, foundations, platforms and site layouts.
- Coordinate interfaces with Process, Mechanical, EICA, structural, architectural, geotechnical, construction and operations teams, including access, lifting, maintainability, constructability and temporary works considerations.
- Support CDM/safety-by-design reviews, design risk assessments, carbon reduction, materials selection, buildability reviews, HAZOP/SWIFT input and technical assurance processes.
- Review supplier/contractor submissions, respond to technical queries and support construction, commissioning, handover and asset integration where required.
- Mentor Engineers and Graduates and contribute to civil design standards, templates, digital workflows and delivery improvements.
- Support business development and work-winning through bid inputs, scope development, technical responses and client-facing contributions.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements
- BEng/MEng or equivalent in Civil Engineering.
- Chartered Engineer status, or significant CEng-level experience while actively progressing towards chartership, with a recognised institution such as ICE or similar.
- Typically 6+ years’ relevant civil engineering design experience.
- Background must be from water, wastewater, biosolids/bioresources, environmental infrastructure, process/treatment works or other relevant civil engineering design environments.
- Proven ability to deliver civil design packages within multidisciplinary water/wastewater projects, ideally including non-infrastructure treatment works.
- Strong practical experience in civil layouts, hydraulic structures, tanks, chambers, drainage, site development, pipework corridors, foundations, retaining structures, access, constructability and buildability.
- Experience supporting HAZOPs, SWIFT reviews, constructability reviews, temporary works discussions, technical assurance, commissioning, handover or performance testing.
- Ability to prepare and check civil calculations, drawings, models, specifications, reports, schedules and procurement/supporting documentation.
- Working knowledge of UK water industry standards, CESWI, CDM 2015, safety-by-design, sustainable design principles and relevant client standards.
- Experience using civil design software and digital delivery environments such as Civil 3D, hydraulic modelling tools (e.g. HADES), GIS platforms and BIM-enabled workflows.
- Good commercial awareness and ability to deliver to agreed scope, budget and programme.
- Strong communication skills, including ability to lead technical discussions and present recommendations clearly.
- Able to travel to operational works and construction sites as required and act safely in live water/wastewater environments.
Desirable Skills / Knowledge
- Experience with AMP8, WINEP, SROs, D&B, alliance or major capital delivery environments.
- Experience in water recycling/reuse, wastewater treatment, sludge/bioresources, energy recovery, odour control, chemical dosing, package plant, reed beds/NbS, low-carbon design or offsite manufacture.
- Experience mentoring junior staff and improving civil workflows, design templates, technical standards or QA processes.
- Experience contributing to bid writing, technical proposals, client presentations, recruitment or capability development.
