Job Description

Key Purpose of the Role

The primary purpose of this position is to:

  • Lead the delivery of civil engineering design packages across multiple projects.
  • Provide technical guidance and project leadership to the Bangkok civil engineering team.
  • Build and strengthen the technical capability of local engineers through mentoring, coaching, and structured development.
  • Support the growth of the Bangkok office as a high-performing workshare delivery centre for Australia and New Zealand.
  • Ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and to the required standards of quality, programme, and budget.
  • Foster strong working relationships with Oceania-based project teams and technical leaders.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Leadership

  • Lead the planning, coordination, and delivery of civil engineering design packages.
  • Act as the technical lead for road, earthworks, drainage, stormwater, and site development projects.
  • Review engineering calculations, reports, models, drawings, and technical documentation.
  • Review designs to confirm compliance with relevant Australian and New Zealand standards, guidelines, and client requirements.
  • Provide practical engineering solutions to complex technical challenges.
  • Support the implementation of quality assurance processes and technical reviews.
  • Drive consistency and best practice across the civil team.

Team Leadership and Capability Development

A major focus of this role is the development of the Bangkok engineering team.

The senior engineer will:

  • Mentor graduate, junior, and intermediate engineers.
  • Conduct technical reviews and provide constructive feedback.
  • Assist in the development of training materials, workshops, and knowledge sharing initiatives.
  • Follow and provide guidance to graduate, junior and intermediate engineers on Beca technical materials, including spreadsheets, review processes, verification and documentation standards.
  • Support recruitment and development of new team members. (This role will be a supporting role only and recruitment will be managed by workshare managers.)
  • Promote a culture of continuous learning and technical excellence.
  • Work closely with Australian and New Zealand technical leaders to ensure capability development aligns with business needs.

Success in this role will be measured not only by project delivery outcomes but also by the growth and development of the wider team.

Project Delivery

  • Lead packages of work from feasibility/ concept through to detailed design and construction technical support.
  • Manage priorities across multiple projects simultaneously, relaying any constraints or conflicting deadlines or commitments to the workshare managers.
  • Deliver work to agreed programmes and budgets.
  • Coordinate with multidiscipline teams including:
  • Civil
  • Water
  • Structures
  • Geotechnical
  • Transport
  • Utilities
  • Environmental
  • Survey
  • Planning/ Ecology
  • Participate in project meetings and technical workshops.
  • Support risk management and project planning activities.
  • Contribute to project performance reporting.
  • Manage and leverage the time zone differences

International Collaboration

As part of a workshare delivery model, the role requires significant interaction with Australia and New Zealand project teams.

The senior engineer will:

  • Work closely with Project Managers and Design Managers located across Oceania.
  • Participate in virtual meetings and technical reviews with international teams.
  • Build trusted relationships with stakeholders across multiple offices.
  • Understand and adapt to differing client expectations and project delivery approaches.
  • Support a "One Team" culture across geographical locations.

Digital Engineering

The senior engineer will be expected to:

  • Lead the development and review of digital engineering deliverables.
  • Guide junior engineers in modern design workflows.
  • Work effectively within BIM and model-based delivery environments.
  • Promote digital innovation and design efficiency.
