We are looking for an experienced Senior Civil Engineer to join our Global Asset Engineering & Design team. In this role, you will support the development of new terminals and the expansion of existing facilities across our global network. - Based in Barcelona or The Hague and reporting to the Head of Civil Engineering, you will contribute to major civil and marine infrastructure initiatives across multiple regions, with approximately 20% international travel.
What We Can Offer
At APM Terminals, we foster a dynamic learning and training culture that empowers our employees to excel. Our commitment to improvement means every team member has the opportunity to develop their skills and advance their careers by continuously refining how we work. Experience a diverse, multinational workplace where your operational insights directly influence how we work.
- Work on complex global port and terminal infrastructure projects across multiple regions and countries.
- Collaborate with experienced engineering, procurement, and project delivery professionals in a highly international environment.
- Develop deep expertise in terminal infrastructure, master planning, technical requirements, and design review processes.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of engineering standards, specifications, and best practices across a global network.
Key Responsibilities
- Support new terminal developments and expansion projects by providing civil and marine engineering expertise.
- Develop feasibility studies, infrastructure concepts, and technical requirements that align with operational and commercial needs.
- Create and maintain standard specifications and Employer's Requirements for civil infrastructure assets.
- Prepare technical scopes and supporting documentation for supplier tenders and procurement activities.
- Participate in tender evaluations, technical assessments, and design reviews to ensure fit-for-purpose infrastructure solutions.
- Act as a functional lead and subject matter expert, providing guidance and support to project teams and terminal stakeholders globally.
- Manage external consultants and help resolve complex civil engineering challenges during design, construction, and commissioning phases.
What We Are Looking For
- Continuous improvement mindset: we are looking for someone who brings a thoughtful improvement mindset—curious about how work gets done and motivated to make meaningful, sustainable improvements over time.
- Leadership expectation: We are looking for people who consistently put customers first, lead by example with respect for people, deliver results with integrity, and drive continuous improvement by solving problems at the root, developing people, and raising standards every day.
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil Engineering, Marine Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Minimum 10 years of relevant experience within marine and civil infrastructure environments; experience in ports or container terminals is highly valued.
- Strong experience in the design and analysis of civil engineering systems, including structural, geotechnical, transportation, and environmental disciplines.
- Proven ability to develop specifications, evaluate technical proposals, support procurement processes, and deliver complex infrastructure projects.
- Excellent analytical, communication, stakeholder management, and problem-solving skills in multicultural and multi-stakeholder environments.
- Business-level written and spoken English, with the ability to work effectively across international teams and projects.
- Strong commitment to safety, quality, documentation, and continuous professional improvement.
