Amazon’s Australia retail team, located in Sydney, is looking for a highly analytical Senior Category Manager (known in Amazon as a Senior Vendor Manager; SVM) with a passion for launching new countries and driving thought leadership. It is a pivotal role that will contribute to the evolution and success of an important country launch. If you’re inspired by a new challenge and the thought of contributing to a new business in a significant way this is the position for you. In this role you will act as the ‘business owner’ for assigned categories, maximizing Amazon’s selection expansion opportunities and business profitability, creating earth's greatest shopping experience – a store featuring more products, brands & compelling content than any other - online or off!

As SVM, you will be a passionate customer and category advocate within Amazon, with enhanced negotiation skills and proven analytical capabilities. The ability to effectively prioritize and multi-task is a must, together with excellent project management skills and laser sharp attention to detail. The SVM must also be an effective leader and communicator, working with some of Amazon.com.au’s most important partners and vendors, as well as with internal colleagues and cross-functional leaders. The ideal candidate will be a self-starter with a passion for retail and a high level of flexibility and commitment.

This position requires full-time in-office presence 5 days per week at our CBD location.

Key job responsibilities
- Act as the ‘business owner’ for assigned categories, possessing a complete understanding (inclusive of the strategic context) of internal and external variables that impact your business (this entails owning forecasting, monitoring, understanding and reporting on the business, along with responsibility for driving projects and promotions to achieve business objectives)
- Have a thorough understanding of the industry, seasonality and business trends/events, and continually monitor competitor/industry developments
- Maximize Amazon’s business profitability and selection expansion opportunities
- Manage and develop others in their growth at amazon
- Have a complete understanding of the customer needs, both existing and potential, and use that knowledge to advocate for and drive delivery of site features that provide Amazon customers with an unparalleled shopping experience
- Manage vendor relationships - manage supplier/partner contracts, day-to-day relationships, drive vendor performance improvement activities across both supply chain and marketing functions and negotiate marketing funds
- Create business plans for new opportunities and develop and execute project plans for the launch of new features, incorporating merchandising and pricing strategies
- Coordinate cross-functional teams, and communicate with internal and external stakeholders, while meeting tight deadlines
- Conduct financial analysis of business opportunities to meet and exceed revenue and profitability targets

A day in the life
In this role, you'll serve as the business owner for assigned categories, diving deep into market trends, competitor activity, and customer needs to inform your strategic decisions. You'll spend your time analyzing business performance data, collaborating with internal teams across merchandising, marketing, and supply chain to execute category initiatives, and building strong partnerships with key vendors and suppliers. Your day might include negotiating marketing investments with partners, developing pricing and merchandising strategies for seasonal campaigns, coordinating cross-functional project launches, and presenting business insights to leadership. You'll balance strategic planning with hands-on execution, ensuring that every decision drives both customer satisfaction and business growth.

Our vision is to expand selection, improve availability, and create a shopping destination that offers more products, brands, and compelling content than anywhere else. As a Senior Category Growth Manager, you'll work closely with merchandising specialists, supply chain partners, marketing teams, and vendor management colleagues to execute this vision. You'll partner with some of Amazon's most important retail partners while supporting your teammates' growth and development. Basic Qualifications


- 5+ years of account management, project or program management or buying experience
- 5+ years of with Excel experience
- Bachelor's degree, or 5+ years of professional or military experience
- Knowledge of Microsoft Access or SQL
- Experience using data to influence business decisions
- Experience driving internal cross-team collaboration
- Experience with business analysis and P&L management

Preferred Qualifications

- Experience driving direction and alignment with cross-functional teams
