As a Senior Cabinet Engineer, you will be the primary technical authority for the design, engineering, and optimization of low-voltage switch gears and industrial control cabinets. Drawing on your extensive experience in the German market, you will oversee the entire hardware engineering lifecycle - from initial concept and schematic design to prototype testing and serial production release. You will also play a key role in mentoring junior engineers and shaping our internal design standards.
Electrical Design & Engineering: Lead the complex design and layout of control cabinets and switch gears
Schematic Creation: Develop detailed electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, terminal plans, and Bills of Materials (BOMs)
Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all designs strictly adhere to relevant German and European standards, specifically DIN EN 61439, VDE 0113 / EN 60204-1, and VDE 0100
Component Selection: Specify and source electrical components, electromechanical parts, and safety systems, negotiating technical requirements with suppliers
Thermal & Short-Circuit Management: Perform necessary calculations for thermal management (e.g., Rittal Therm), short-circuit constraints, and power dissipation
Cross-Functional Leadership: Collaborate closely with mechanical engineering, software development and assembly teams to ensure seamless integration and manufacturability
Mentorship: Guide and support junior hardware engineers, conducting design reviews and fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
Required:
Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation Technology, or a certified state technician (Staatlich geprüfter Techniker) / Master Craftsman (Elektromeister) with equivalent experience
Experience:10+ years of hands-on experience in control cabinet engineering and electrical hardware design, with a proven track record specifically within the German market
Software Mastery: Expert-level proficiency in EPLAN Electric P8 (including EPLAN Pro Panel for 3D layout)
Norms & Standards: Deep, applied knowledge of German and European electrical engineering standards (CE marking, DIN, VDE, Machinery Directive)
Language Skills: Fluent German (C1/C2 level) for clear communication with local suppliers and production teams, and professional proficiency in English
Preferred:
Experience with UL/CSA standards (UL 508A) for the North American export market
Familiarity with ERP and PLM/PDM systems (e.g., SAP, Teamcenter) for BOM and lifecycle management
