We’re looking for an experienced Senior Buyer to join our Merchandise team and help shape the product direction and continued growth of Platypus.
As a Senior Buyer, you’ll be responsible for developing commercial product ranges, managing key brand partnerships and driving buying strategies that connect with our customers.
Alongside your buying responsibilities, you’ll lead and mentor junior team members, helping to build a collaborative and high-performing Buying team.
What you’ll be doing:
• Develop and deliver product strategies aligned with Platypus’ brand direction and goals
• Manage end-to-end buying processes including range selection, negotiation, costing and sign off
• Build and maintain strong relationships with key brand partners and suppliers
• Identify market trends, consumer behaviour and product opportunities
• Work closely with Planning to manage OTB, inventory and purchasing decisions
• Analyse brand and product performance to maximise opportunities and manage risk
• Partner with Marketing, Planning and Retail teams to bring product ranges to life
• Manage supplier performance, contracts and delivery processes
• Lead, coach and develop junior team members
• Provide trade insights, reporting and post-season analysis to support decision making
To succeed in this role, you will have the following:
• 5 years’ experience in branded buying, merchandising or a similar retail role
• Experience within footwear or fashion is highly desirable
• Strong commercial mindset with a proven understanding of product strategy and buying
• Confident negotiator with experience managing supplier relationships
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to use data to influence decisions
• Experience managing budgets, OTB and inventory processes
• Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate across teams
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and purchasing software systems.
