Job Description

Duke University:

Duke University was created in 1924 through an indenture of trust by James Buchanan Duke. Today, Duke is regarded as one of America’s leading research universities. Located in Durham, North Carolina, Duke is positioned in the heart of the Research Triangle, which is ranked annually as one of the best places in the country to work and live. Duke has more than 15,000 students who study and conduct research in its 10 undergraduate, graduate and professional schools. With about 40,000 employees, Duke is the third largest private employer in North Carolina, and it now has international programs in more than 150 countries.

Be You.

Student Information Services and Systems (SISS) is seeking an experienced Senior Business Systems Analyst to serve as our Operations (Ops) Lead and a key strategic partner in supporting Duke’s student information ecosystem. In this highly visible role, you’ll combine deep technical expertise with operational leadership to ensure our student systems are reliable, scalable, and aligned with the evolving needs of the University.

You’ll work primarily with PeopleSoft Campus Solutions (DukeHub) and play a lead role in shaping how student lifecycle processes are supported across schools and central offices. Your daily work will involve collaborating with functional partners across the university, coordinating operational activities such as testing and communications, and solving complex system and process challenges that directly impact students, staff, and faculty.

As part of SISS’s embedded support model, you will serve as the dedicated technical and operations resource for key functional teams. This model is designed to deepen relationships, improve responsiveness, and ensure operational decisions are tightly aligned with academic and administrative priorities. You’ll contribute to planning and prioritization efforts, gain early insight into upcoming changes, and help the Operations team proactively support new initiatives.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working across organizational boundaries, thrives in complex environments, and wants to make a tangible impact on how a leading research university delivers student services.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Five or more years of experience providing functional software support
  • Significant experience with PeopleSoft Campus Solutions
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex system and process issues

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience supporting student lifecycle processes in a higher education environment
  • Advanced knowledge of PeopleSoft Campus Solutions tools, including Equation Engine, Page and Field Configurator, Query, BI Publisher, 3C Communications, and Checklists
  • Proven experience leading cross‑functional projects with broad institutional impact
  • Demonstrated success developing and delivering user training and documentation
  • Experience working with integrated systems such as Slate, Canvas, Perceptive Content, or identity management systems

Other Requirements:

  • Ability to work independently while managing multiple, concurrent initiatives
  • Capacity to interact professionally with a wide range of stakeholders, including senior leaders, end users, power users, and technical development teams

This position is hybrid eligible, with work performed on‑site and remotely.

Be Bold.

As the Senior Business Systems Analyst and Operations Lead, you will:

  • Provide operational and strategic leadership for assigned student information systems and functional areas, serving as the functional lead for the SISS Operations Team and guiding vision, prioritization, and planning.
  • Lead cross‑functional and cross‑school initiatives, with full accountability for project planning, execution, testing coordination, stakeholder communication, and outcomes reporting.
  • Serve as the embedded support resource for Financial Aid and Student Financials, partnering closely with functional teams to align system operations with evolving business needs.
  • Advise schools and central offices on optimal system usage, process redesign, and workflow improvements to enhance efficiency, compliance, and service delivery.
  • Ensure system configurations and data structures support federal reporting, institutional analytics, strategic planning, and daily operational requirements.
  • Anticipate and coordinate testing activities for new system enhancements, integrations, and process changes, ensuring stability across dependent systems.
  • Provide advanced troubleshooting and issue resolution for complex configuration, processing, and integration challenges, including triaging and resolving help desk tickets.
  • Oversee interfaces and integrations with internal and external systems, ensuring functionality, reliability, and data integrity across platforms.
  • Translate business needs into clear system requirements, serving as the primary liaison between business stakeholders and technical development teams.
  • Develop and maintain documentation, including requirements, operational manuals, forms, training materials, and process guides.
  • Deliver user training and education across all supported functional areas and systems.
  • Maintain awareness of national trends and best practices, representing Duke University through conference presentations, advisory groups, and inter‑institutional forums.

Choose Duke.

At Duke University, you’ll be part of an institution globally recognized for excellence in education, research, and innovation. Within SISS, you’ll join a collaborative, service‑oriented team committed to improving how technology supports the student experience from enrollment through graduation.

This role offers the opportunity to work with dedicated professionals across schools and central offices, contribute to high‑impact initiatives, and influence how core student systems evolve to meet future needs. Duke values inclusion, collaboration, and continuous improvement—and provides an environment where your expertise is respected and your voice is heard.
