Job Description

Drive growth and lead strategic business development and marketing initiatives across the firm’s global Corporate practice.

Covington & Burling, a prominent global Am Law 35 firm, is seeking a Senior Business Development Manager to lead strategic initiatives for its M&A and Securities & Capital Markets practices within their Corporate group. This highly visible role is central to driving practice growth, working in close partnership with practice leaders and a high-performing business development and marketing team to strengthen and advance the firm’s competitive position.

The Senior Manager will lead high-impact business development, marketing, and communications efforts, requiring exceptional stakeholder management, cross-functional collaboration, and a sophisticated understanding of how corporate practices compete and succeed in the market.

The role in action:

  • Partner with senior attorneys and practice leaders to plan and execute business development initiatives, identify priority clients, and drive measurable growth.
  • Expand key client relationships through cross-collaboration, lateral integration, and coordinated sponsorship, speaking, thought leadership, and CLE initiatives.
  • Deliver high-quality client pitches and RFP materials and prepare attorneys for client meetings using market insights.
  • Execute practice marketing initiatives, including events, submissions, client communications, and website and collateral content.
  • Supervise and mentor junior team members, providing training on proposals, events, content, CRM use, and targeted business development education for attorneys.

We are seeking candidates who:

  • Bring 7+ years of experience in business development, marketing or other professional services settings; prior law firm and M&A practice experience is strongly preferred.
  • Hold a bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, or related field.
  • Demonstrate strong communication and leadership skills, manage competing priorities with accountability, and deliver high quality work in a deadline-driven environment.
