He whakamārama mo te tūranga mahi | About the role:

This is not a traditional Business Analyst role.

As a Senior Practitioner within KiwiRail’s Design & Analysis Practice, you will operate at the intersection of strategy, operations, customer experience, and technology. Your focus will be on helping KiwiRail solve complex business problems by leading discovery, designing end-to-end services and processes, and providing clear, evidence-based recommendations that drive meaningful outcomes.

You will work closely with senior leaders, operational teams, and delivery specialists to understand how our business operates, identify opportunities for improvement, and shape future-state services and ways of working.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys ambiguity, thrives in complex operational environments, and is passionate about understanding problems deeply before jumping to solutions.

What you'll be doing

You will:

  • Lead structured discovery activities to define business problems, opportunities, and desired outcomes
  • Facilitate workshops and engagement sessions with stakeholders ranging from frontline teams through to senior executives
  • Analyse and redesign end-to-end business processes and services
  • Develop service blueprints, customer journeys, process maps, and future-state operating models
  • Identify root causes, risks, constraints, and opportunities across people, process, technology, and data
  • Translate complex findings into concise, decision-ready insights and recommendations
  • Conduct options analysis and support investment and strategic decision-making
  • Partner with business and technology teams to shape practical, sustainable solutions
  • Apply continuous improvement, Lean, and process optimisation techniques to improve business performance
  • Produce executive-level artefacts that support alignment, governance, and decision-making
