As a Senior Business Analyst within KiwiRail’s Design and Analysis Practice, you will help solve complex, high value business challenges that deliver meaningful organisational impact.

This is a senior, hands-on role where you will bring clarity to ambiguity and support confident, evidence based decision making. You will sit comfortably between the spaces of understanding how to unpack complex operational business problems while having a strong ability to understand technical IT landscape and how you bring these together. Collaborating closely with senior leaders, operational teams, and delivery specialists, you will influence how KiwiRail defines and addresses problems across strategy, operations, customer experience, and technology.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Turning broad or loosely defined issues into clear, decision ready insights
  • Designing and leading fit‑for‑purpose discovery and analysis approaches
  • Conducting service design, process improvement, and value stream analysis
  • Partnering with stakeholders to co‑create practical, effective solutions
  • Supporting executive decision-making through clear analysis, storytelling, and visualisation

This role is well suited to a senior practitioner who enjoys working directly with the business and delivering measurable, organisation wide outcomes

You’ll bring sound judgement, curiosity, and a collaborative approach, along with:

  • 5+ years’ experience in business analysis, service design, or a related discipline
  • Strong capability in problem definition, requirements analysis, and solution shaping
  • Experience applying Lean or continuous improvement methodologies
  • Confidence collaborating with senior leaders and facilitating complex discussions
  • Ability to translate complex concepts into clear, accessible artefacts
  • Understanding of IT systems, delivery approaches, and data informed analysis
  • Calm, adaptable approach when navigating change and competing priorities
  • A strong commitment to safety, wellbeing, and inclusive ways of working
  • Relevant qualifications and professional certifications are preferred
