Location & Schedule

The City and County of Denver supports a hybrid workplace model.Employees work where needed, at a job site several days a week and off-site as needed. In this position you can expect work onsite at the Denver Wastewater Building (2000 W. 3rd Ave., Denver, CO 80223) on your in office days. Employees must work within the state of Colorado on their off-site days.

DOTI’s Infrastructure Delivery Division – Bridge Office has an opening for a Senior Engineer. This position would be part of a larger 17-person team working with engineers, project managers, inspectors, skilled tradesmen, and business administrators. As a Senior Engineer, you will have an opportunity to manage the design and construction aspects of bridge preventative maintenance, rehabilitations, replacements, and emergency repair projects.

TheSenior Engineerroles and responsibilities may include the following: 

  • Performing project management work by managing, coordinating, and directing large, complex, multi-disciplinary capital improvement projects including project initiation, development, production/execution, and closing/maintenance and project coordination with city departments, elected officials, affected community and business organizations, and other internal/external stakeholders

  • Providing technical input and guidance to supportother internal City projects. Leverage and advocate best practices to further enhance Denver’sBridge system.

  • Preparingdocumentation, reports, and presentations

  • Conductingquality assurance and quality controlon deliverables, as well as perform reviews of work performed by others to ensure accuracy and completeness, standard of care, and compliance withdesign criteria andstandard practices

  • Engagingandcollaboratingwith other city agencies, outside governmental municipalitiesand regional partners,businessand/or community groups, the public, and other stakeholders, as needed

  • Coordinatingalignment with internal DOTI departments andother cityagencies,includingDOTI Right-of-Way Services (ROWS), DOTI Wastewater Operations,Denver Parks and Recreation,and Community Planning and Development (CPD)Partnerwithagenciesthatmay include Mile High Flood District, Metro Water Recovery, Denver Water,andothergovernmentalentities

  • Supporting planning effortsthat may includebridgeinfrastructure projects

  • Servingas a technical and/or subject matter expert andprovidetraining and mentoring to other staff members in the areas of projectdevelopment, project design, project specification preparation, project management, contract management,projectconstructionandquality control

  • Performingother relatedduties asassigned.

What You’ll Bring

Our ideal candidate has some or all the following experience, skills, and characteristics:

  • The ideal candidate has5to 10 yearsofprogressive experience inmanaging the design and construction ofbridge, boxculvert, and wallprojects

  • Background and experience inthe planning anddesign ofbridgeprojects

  • Experience withhighly complex, multi-disciplineprojects that includeadditionalcomponents such as roadway improvements, signal reconstruction, and bike lanes

  • Strong communication,collaborationskillsand experience working with diverse groups of stakeholders and the public through community engagement

  • Ability to solve complex problems using sound professional judgment, creativity, and innovation

  • Skilled in Microsoft OfficeExcel and PowerPoint

  • SkilledinMicroStation,ArcGIS Pro/ArcMap desktop and online products

Minimum Qualifications

  • Education requirement:Bachelor's Degree in Engineering

  • Experience Requirement:Three (3) years of professional engineering work experience after obtaining a Professional Engineering (PE) license. (Some positions may require experience in a specific engineering area)

  • Education/ExperienceEquivalency:No substitution of experience for education ispermitted Additionalappropriate educationmay be substituted for experience requirements.

  • Licensure: Requires a valid Driver's License at the time of application.

  • Requires registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) by the Colorado State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers at the time of application.

  • Registration in another state will be accepted in lieu of this requirement, provided that the applicant has Colorado registration at completion of1-yearprobation.

  • Licenses and certifications must be kept current as a condition of employment.
