Our client is seeking an experienced and highly capable Senior Technician to join its technical operations team in Kingston, Jamaica. This opportunity is ideal for a skilled mechanical professional with strong diagnostic and repair experience across engines, equipment, and technical systems, particularly within the marine and boating industry.
The successful candidate will play a key role in diagnosing, servicing, maintaining, and repairing boats, marine engines, and related systems, while also supporting general workshop technical operations. Candidates with experience working on marine vessels, outboard and inboard engines, or marine electrical systems are strongly encouraged to apply.
• Diagnose, service, repair, and maintain boats, marine engines, and related mechanical systems.
• Perform troubleshooting on outboard, inboard, and sterndrive engines, including fuel, cooling, steering, hydraulic, and electrical systems.
• Conduct preventative maintenance inspections and recommend repairs to ensure vessel reliability and safety.
• Perform general mechanical and technical repairs on equipment and machinery within the workshop environment.
• Identify and resolve complex mechanical and technical faults efficiently and accurately.
• Test boats and equipment following repairs to confirm proper operation and performance.
• Maintain accurate service records, repair reports, and technical documentation.
• Ensure all repair and maintenance work meets company quality and safety standards.
• Lead, mentor, and support Apprentice and Junior Technicians within the workshop.
• Assist with workshop scheduling, workflow coordination, and job prioritization.
• Ensure tools, diagnostic equipment, and workshop machinery are properly maintained and safely used.
• Support inventory management for marine parts, workshop supplies, and technical equipment.
• Communicate technical findings and repair recommendations clearly to customers and management.
• Assist with sea trials, on-site service calls, and emergency repairs when required.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and professional workshop environment.
• Carry out other related technical duties assigned by management.
• Diploma, certification, or formal training in Marine Technology, Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Technology, Industrial Maintenance, or a related technical field.
• Minimum of 4 to 6 years’ experience in marine servicing, mechanical repair, or technical maintenance.
• Experience working on boats, marine engines, or marine systems is strongly preferred.
• Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills across mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems.
• Familiarity with marine engine brands such as Yamaha, Mercury, Suzuki, MerCruiser, Volvo Penta, or similar is an asset.
• Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, wiring diagrams, schematics, and repair documentation.
• Experience supervising or mentoring junior technicians is an asset.
• Proficiency in the use of workshop tools, testing equipment, and diagnostic systems.
• Basic to intermediate computer literacy, including service reporting systems.
• Valid driver’s license is preferred.
• Strong leadership and technical problem-solving ability.
• High attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple repair priorities.
• Reliable, disciplined, and safety-conscious.
• Strong communication and customer service skills.
• Positive attitude and willingness to mentor junior technicians.
• Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet deadlines.
• Passion for marine equipment, boats, and technical repair work is highly valued.
