The Senior Bioinformatician plays a key role in delivering NGS bioinformatics services and products to a diverse customer base. Taking responsibility for one or more specific services, the Senior Bioinformatician oversees and carries out expert duties in the day-to-day bioinformatic work of the given service(s), in close collaboration with the local and global NGS project management and sales teams. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to capably perform each of the following essential duties:

  • Coordinate bioinformatic work with NGS project management, from order placement to data delivery
  • Ensure timely and efficient data quality control and analysis duties
  • Expertise for this role: Carry out design for custom targeted genotyping assays (Amp-Seq and Flex-Seq)
  • Act as an escalation point for project-related quality issues, involving Innovation Hub staff where needed
  • Adhere to and support local quality management systems
  • Maintain regular communication with customers to understand specific requirements, clarify expectations, and monitor satisfaction
  • Contribute to general bioinformatics storage housekeeping
  • Carry out custom analyses to support troubleshooting activities
  • Actively participate in internal programs that promote continuous improvement
  • Perform other duties as required, or assigned by management, to meet business needs

Qualifications

  • Degree in a scientific discipline or a minimum of 3 years’ experience in a service laboratory environment
  • Proven bioinformatics experience in custom targeted genotyping assay designs (Amp-Seq or similar)
  • Fluent in English & German (C1/C2 Minimum)
  • Solid knowledge of NGS technologies and hands-on experience with typical bioinformatics workflows
  • Proficiency in Bash shell scripting and Python
  • Experience with LIMS and quality systems
  • Excellent organisational and communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail and high level of accuracy in work
  • Ability to work methodically, reliably, and in a highly organised manner
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing operational conditions
  • Commercial awareness and motivation for both personal and business growth
  • Ability to influence others effectively
  • Experience in maintaining and authoring quality documentation (e.g. SOPs)
  • Familiarity with cross-functional collaboration (e.g. with Quality or Customer Services/ Commercial)
  • Knowledge of continuous improvement methodologies (e.g. Lean, Six Sigma)
