In this role, you are the senior hands-on engineer responsible for turning the Reporting & Insights strategy into reliable, scalable and governed reporting products. You will work closely with the Head of Reporting & Insights, business domain owners, Data Platform teams, Analytics Product teams and Power BI / Genesis stakeholders to build reports and analytical views that consume certified Analytics Layers and agreed metric definitions rather than recreating business logic in local dashboards.
You will develop high-quality Power BI and Genesis-based reporting solutions, implement common data models and report templates, support the migration and industrialisation of priority legacy reports, and help establish engineering standards that allow business teams to self-serve safely. The role is not only about building dashboards; it is about creating trusted decision-making assets that are governed, reusable, performant and ready to support future AI-native insights.
Key duties and responsibilities
Critical Reporting & ScorCard Delivery. Design, build, test and operate high-impact reporting products for SCOR, including the Strategic KPI Layer / ScorCard, critical operational reports and executive-ready reporting assets.
Power BI Engineering. Develop robust Power BI semantic models, datasets, reports and applications following SCOR standards for performance, accessibility, naming, documentation, security and maintainability.
Genesis / Analytics Layer Integration. Consume governed ADM datasets and certified analytical layers from Genesis/Palantir Foundry, working with data foundations and analytics product teams to ensure lineage, data quality and metric consistency.
Semantic Models & KPI Implementation. Translate agreed Metric Dictionary definitions into reusable technical implementations, ensuring that KPIs are calculated once, documented clearly and reused consistently across reports, self-service products and future AI tools.
Reporting Migration & Industrialisation. Support the assessment, redesign and migration of priority reports from legacy tools such as Tableau, SAP BO, Cognos, Excel or local solutions into the target reporting stack, avoiding simple lift-and-shift when process improvement or simplification is possible.
Reporting Governance & Certification. Implement technical guardrails for official, certified and business-critical reporting, including documentation, refresh monitoring, access controls, data validation, release management and certification evidence.
Self-Service Enablement. Create reusable templates, certified datasets, guidance and examples that empower business users to build their own non-critical reporting within clear governance boundaries.
Quality, Security & Operations. Monitor report usage, refresh reliability, performance and incidents; apply secure access patterns including row-level security where needed; ensure reporting products are stable and auditable.
Technical Leadership. Mentor BI engineers and devolved business developers, review technical designs, establish best practices, support external delivery partners where relevant and continuously improve the BI engineering craft at SCOR.
Required experience & competencies
Senior BI Engineering Expertise. You have 6+ years of experience delivering enterprise BI, reporting or analytics solutions in complex organisations. You are comfortable working across the full lifecycle: requirements, data modelling, build, testing, release, monitoring and continuous improvement.
Power BI Expertise. You have deep hands-on experience with Power BI Desktop and Power BI Service, including semantic modelling, DAX, Power Query, workspace management, deployment patterns, report performance optimisation, refresh monitoring and security concepts such as row-level security.
Data Modelling & Semantic Layer. You understand dimensional modelling, star schemas, semantic models, KPI definitions, certified datasets and lineage. You know why business logic should be governed and reused rather than duplicated across many local reports.
Data Engineering Foundations. You have strong SQL skills and practical experience working with data platforms, data warehouses, lakehouses or analytical data models. Experience with Python, Spark, Databricks or similar technologies is a strong plus.
Genesis / Palantir Foundry or Modern Data Platforms. Experience with Palantir Foundry, Contour, object-based data models, ontology concepts, or comparable governed analytics platforms is preferred. Curiosity and ability to learn Genesis quickly is essential.
Governed Reporting & Controls. You understand the difference between exploratory analytics, self-service reporting, official reporting and certified or audited reporting. You can translate governance principles into practical engineering patterns without creating unnecessary bureaucracy.
Software Engineering Discipline. You work with clean development practices including version control, documentation, testing, environment separation, peer review and release management. Experience with Git, Azure DevOps, CI/CD or similar tooling is preferred.
Product and User-Centric Mindset. You care about adoption, not only delivery. You seek to understand user journeys, decision processes and business workflows, and you iterate quickly to create useful products rather than over-engineered dashboards.
Business Interest. You have a good understanding of finance, performance management or risk topics and are willing to learn the reinsurance business. Experience in insurance, reinsurance, financial services, finance or controlling is a plus.
Technical Leadership & Coaching. You can guide other engineers, business developers and external partners, set quality standards, review designs constructively and help build a professional BI engineering capability.
Collaboration. You thrive in cross-functional teams and can work with business experts, data engineers, architects, data owners and senior stakeholders. You help translate business needs into technical designs and technical constraints into clear business choices.
AI-Readiness. You understand that trusted metrics, semantic models and governed data products are prerequisites for natural-language analytics, automated narratives and AI-assisted insights. Experience integrating BI assets with AI or data-assistant tooling is a plus.
Can-Do Attitude. You are pragmatic, independent and comfortable working in an evolving environment where not every process is defined yet. You like building standards while delivering useful outcomes.
Required Education
Quantitative bachelor's or master's degree (e.g. Data Science, Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, Economics, Finance) or equivalent practical experience.

The reinsurance industry is about combining technical expertise and experience with the developments of science. However many tools we use to conduct our activities (models, databases, pricing tools, reserving tools, and so on), we also need expert judgments and human experience to correctly underwrite. This is what we call the art of underwriting. Reinsurance is a knowledge industry. Expertise is an accumulation variable.
The most advanced tool will never replace the intuition of a seasoned underwriter facing a complex risk. Because at the end of the day, you have to make a decision, to sign, to underwrite. And what we have underwritten, we cannot overwrite - our word is our bond, as is our signature. This dimension of our business, linked to the art of underwriting, is more important than some observers would have people believe.
One way to acquire this art is to share experiences – both good and bad – and to share doubts and questions. Artists always belong to a school, from which they learn their craft.
Like artists, we have to learn, imitate, mimic, and then innovate, in order to find our own style and create our own distinctive work.
