Responsibilities

  • Oversee strategy supporting the day-to-day operational activities of the National Benefits team, providing leadership and guidance to ensure concierge level service for Partners and team members
  • Organize and prioritize workload; manage multiple tasks, deliverables, and projects
  • Performance coach and provide training with respect to product knowledge, claims experience, amendments, booklet updates and claim issues
  • Manage complex benefits and disability claims escalations, raising appropriate issues to internal and external stakeholders and senior leadership as required
  • Complete merger and acquisition analysis through interpretation of benefits contracts and plan designs
  • Manage pension and benefit programs and services, making recommendations on plan enhancements and efficiencies
  • Accountable for timely completion of benefits transactions and records maintenance carried out by the team, ensuring sufficient resourcing and training
  • Uphold data integrity in our HCMS, capturing benefit status, enrolments, terminations, and accuracy with premium billing and payroll processing
  • Maintain existing process documentation for accuracy and relevance, and contribute to the evolution and development of new ideas and approaches to improve work processes
  • Manage vendor relationships and communications as required
  • Attend quarterly pension and benefits governance meetings and support related activities
  • Leveraged specialized expertise to lead strategic initiatives, as directed
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key internal and external stakeholders
  • Manage confidential and sensitive matters using discretion and diplomacy
  • Maintain flexibility to travel, as necessary

Skills and Experience

  • Certified Employee Benefits Specialist (CEBS) designation is preferred
  • Minimum eight (8) years of related industry experience with in-depth knowledge of group benefit contracts, benefit products and carriers, pension and savings products, financial mechanisms as well as applicable legislation across Canada
  • Demonstrated knowledge of leave of absence case management
  • At least Minimum five (5) years of experience leading high performing teams
  • Experience within a brokerage, consulting, or carrier environment would be an asset
  • Ability to leverage new technologies and familiarity with API integrations
  • Advanced knowledge of Word, PowerPoint, Teams, and Excel (including building pivot tables, working in macros, manipulating data from multiple sources to deliver reporting)
  • Proven ability to successfully mentor and performance coach team members
  • Ability to diagnose and resolve issues with a natural inclination towards customer service
  • Ability to speak French and English (written and oral) is considered an asset
