Join our Logistics “Core Abilities” Engineering team as a Senior Software Engineer (all genders) and help us deliver a high-performance, stable, auto-scaling software system that will have a direct impact on our customers’ happiness.

As a member of our team, you will have the chance to play a critical role in the development of our next-generation warehouse management system, which is responsible for handling the delivery of countless products to our customers. You'll be working alongside a group of talented engineers to create innovative solutions for managing orders, products, and physical entities, as well as processes & tools for workflow management & optimisation of the workflow within our warehouses.

WHAT WE’D LOVE YOU TO DO (AND LOVE DOING)

• Take end-to-end ownership of ambiguous, high-impact problems - from shaping the technical strategy through implementation, testing, and running it in production.
• Lead the design, development, and deployment of critical systems relied on by colleagues across our logistics centers, making the architectural trade-offs that hold up at scale.
• Raise the bar for quality across the team by championing testable, reliable systems, and multiplying your impact through code reviews, technical mentorship, and guidance for other engineers.
• Design, build, and maintain software architecture for products that evolve while closely collaborating with Engineering Managers and Product Managers to be in line with our overall tech strategy and architecture
• Iteratively test features with stakeholders whilst keeping the big picture in mind
• Act as a trusted advisor and partner to teams within Warehouse Abilities and external organisations like Returns, Inbound, and Warehouse Algorithms.
• Drive technical excellence by guiding the team through the challenge of scaling core logistics systems to additional facilities; your deep knowledge will ensure the right architectural decisions are made to handle significantly increased throughput.

WE’D LOVE TO MEET YOU IF

• You have experience with JVM-based languages like Java and Kotlin. Knowledge of the Spring Boot framework is a must.
• You can effectively translate ambiguous business requirements into clear technical solutions.
• You demonstrate a strong sense of ownership and accountability for the reliable operation of production systems and making informed trade-offs regarding scalability and reliability.
• You can design and build large-scale, distributed systems, applying sound architecture/design patterns, API specifications, and testing practices.
• You can work confidently with data structures, SQL, and NoSQL.
• You have experience with logical replication and keeping two architectures in sync, solving complex data problems.
• You have experience building complex systems that combine transactional data sources with analytical workloads.
• You have strong problem-solving and communication skills, and can work autonomously within a team.
• Bonus: you bring hands-on experience with Zalando's Warehouse Management System (Zalos) and its Unit Lifecycle mechanics.
