General description

For a public healthcare data initiative in Belgium, we are looking for a Senior Data Engineer to help build a shared modern data platform for exchanging high-quality health-related information. Existing local data solutions and expertise will converge into a cloud-based analytics environment on Azure Databricks, creating a consistent and reliable data foundation.

This role is central to the development of several key platform components, including a data validation engine and a master/reference data hub. The position combines data engineering, application development, REST API development, Azure Databricks, Python, SQL Server and DevOps/CI-CD practices.

You will collaborate closely with the Project Manager, Data Architect, Data Functional Analysts and other data teams involved in the initiative.

Roles & responsibilities

• Analyse functional data requirements for the project.
• Design, build and deploy a data hub connected to multiple reference and master data sources, including CRUD and data transformation capabilities.
• Develop and maintain REST APIs and connector services for data exchange, configuration, validation and integration with the platform.
• Contribute to the development of a data validation engine to monitor and improve data quality across external data sources.
• Design, develop, test, deploy and maintain data integration and data quality solutions.
• Carry out testing, troubleshooting, maintenance and technical documentation.
• Review prototypes, give demos and provide user training where needed.
• Work with the Project Leader throughout the full project lifecycle to support agile and pragmatic delivery.

Technical skills

• Master's degree in Computer Science, or equivalent experience.
• Minimum 7 years of experience as a Data Engineer.
• Strong hands-on experience with the Microsoft BI stack, including Visual Studio, SSIS and SQL Server from a development perspective.
• Solid experience in data engineering; this is a core requirement for the role.
• Experience with data functional analysis.
• Good experience with Azure Databricks and Python.
• Experience with REST API development is a plus.
• Experience with data analytics design, including Kimball dimensional modelling.
• Experience with Master Data Management (MDM), referential data and data quality controls is a strong plus.
• Experience working in an agile project environment is a plus.

As a Senior Data Engineer, you will design, build and support data integration, master data and data quality solutions, including data hubs, REST connectors and validation components. You will also contribute to testing, documentation, user support and agile delivery across the full lifecycle of the platform.
