Corporate Operations Directorate, part of the DG Corporate family, leads efforts to enable Scottish Government to operate more effectively and efficiently, supporting both internal teams and shared service customers. Our critical technologies and services underpin operations across government, with a focus on digital transformation, automation and shared services. We bring structure and governance to the setting of priorities, and are responsible for delivering projects and programmes from a varied portfolio of transformational change.
Within the Directorate, the Automation Centre of Excellence plays a vital role in transforming our corporate services - delivering early benefits, supporting organisational change, and reducing risk across shared services. The Senior Automation Developer works on agile projects within a portfolio and leads the team on the development of automation solutions. As Senior Automation Developer, you will be responsible for developing, implementing and managing complex Robotic Process Automation (RPA) solutions using a variety of methods in support of automation initiatives across Scottish Government and the wider public sector.
You will collaborate with senior stakeholders and end users throughout the project lifecycle, from the identification of automation opportunities, through to the design, development, testing and maintenance of automatons, employing process optimisation techniques and the use of LEAN/agile methodologies where required. You will also be responsible for the investigation and resolution of defects, Technical Debt and the management of Change Requests relating to Applications deployed within the CoE’s production environment. You will lead on the development of process patterns for automatons that can be reused across the public sector, and will utilise RPA best practices to ensure automatons meet business requirements and stated targets for efficiency.
As the Senior Automation Developer, you will be responsible for ways of working, training and maintaining standards within the development team. You will peer review other people’s design and development thinking; making sure the most appropriate technology is selected and ensuring efficient use of resources.
