The Sr AV Technician supports the AV service delivery for an inspiring array of live in-person, virtual, hybrid corporate meetings and events at Sun Life. The Technician guides and influences business partners on the technical service selection for events both virtual platforms and in our internal conference centres, and ensures the services are delivered at a high-quality standard and professional caliber. The Technician is primarily responsible for delivering audio-visual services required for on-site meetings and events as well as virtual events for Sun Life Financial business groups and senior leadership teams. AV equipment includes all audio equipment (digital mixers, wireless mics), video (projectors, switchers, video conferencing units, cameras, various sources), lighting (studio lighting, theatrical lighting) as well as staging. Virtual event services include streamed live and recorded events on a wide range of platforms as well as Hybrid events with simultaneous live and in person components.

The Sr. AV Technician is responsible for the operation, maintenance, and support of a wide range of AV technologies, including audio, video, conferencing, lighting, streaming, and production systems. The role also supports system maintenance, equipment readiness, vendor coordination, documentation, and technician training to ensure consistent service excellence.

This in-person role is based at our Toronto One York location , and provides occasional support at our Toronto Atria location, as well as non-location specific virtual event support. The Technician reports to the Manager, AV Services The Technician works closely with members of the technician team, as well as the Producing, Multimedia and Operations teams in the delivery of our overall department initiatives.

What will you do?

• Hands-on planning with our business partners to recommend appropriate virtual platforms, audio-visual and staging solutions, and the rehearsal and event delivery of these planned services to ensure the seamless execution of the event.
• Technical operation of key virtual event platforms, broadcast and video equipment and integrations, multi-channel systems and video editing capabilities, as well as the ability to learn new equipment, systems and platforms.
• Demonstrate flexible, solution focused customer service skills to quickly adapt, resolve and trouble-shoot technical problems or late-breaking customer needs.
• Contribute to systems and complete tasks for event reporting, equipment and inventory resourcing to department standards.
• Adhere to company policies and industry best practices for the technical processes, pre, during and post-events
• Commitment to continuous improvement with the aim of making processes as efficient as possible, while delivering quality results

What you need to succeed?

• You have 5+ years of technical expertise in a corporate event environment, producing experiences for online and in-person corporate audiences.
• You’re a well-accomplished event technician with honed skills and track record of troubleshooting under pressure, knowledgeable with a wide range of media, platforms and venues, regularly working in close collaboration with event planning, and multimedia teams.
• You’ve got experience leading partners, suppliers and teams to deliver high quality work.
• You regularly show initiative, as a self-starter you’re confident in your abilities and decision-making. You have an excellent track record in fast paced, deadline driven, high-volume and live production environments.
• You have an exceptional attention to detail
• You have a passion for corporate event experiences, with your finger on the pulse of the latest trends and techniques.
• You have knowledge of industry-related equipment, systems and terminology, and professional abilities. This may include knowledge of AV and broadcast systems such as video conference hardware & software endpoints, hardware & software video switchers (Blackmagic ATEMs, Vmix), Virtual Event Platforms, MS Teams and Zoom as well as expertise in the MS Office Suite, Adobe creative Suite. Demonstratable intuitiveness and ability to adapt and learn a wide range of production systems, equipment platforms and integrations as technology evolves.
• You build strong business relationships with stakeholders, vendors, staff, and team members; you’ve got a strong ability to negotiate and resolve issues smoothly and effectively.
• You’re adaptable, resilient, adjusts quickly, maintains effectiveness throughout periods of change, exhibiting tolerance for ambiguity and the ability to lead the team through change and you maintain your effectiveness throughout periods of change and be comfortable with ambiguity

Preferred skills

• Industry certifications are an asset
• Involvement in industry-related associations
• Hands-on experience with virtual event platforms (MS Teams, Zoom, Cisco Webex, etc.)
• Live audio engineering and sound mixing expertise
• Knowledge of virtual production and hybrid event delivery
• Experience with LED wall systems or advanced staging technologies
• Post-production editing capabilities (Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, DaVinci Resolve)
• Experience creating technical documentation and knowledge base resources
• Familiarity with emerging technologies in the events industry

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted. It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors. In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance. Certain sales focused roles have sales incentive plans based on individual or group sales results.
